gerundino63 -> 11 days- Auction! PDL old rozet for sale! (Mar. 21 2007 9:36:11)

Hi All,

I was last winter in Mexico.
There I was at the small taller of Luco C. Paidea, the Luthier that re-did Paco's old beloved Conde.
As some of you know, the rozet was taken out of the guitar, and there was put a new one in.

I was in the seldome chance to buy the old rozet from the luthier.
I want to put in on auction here, so bid what you want to give for the old rozet from Paco's guitar.

Place your bid here! Exclusive for foro members!!

The bidding is closing in 11 days, next Sunday over a week.
Highest Bidder wins!!!

Sounds strange. Rosettes are usually GLUED in place, and to remove one once glued into the rosette channel would be difficult, and may cause damage to the mosaic. Therefore, I would have to SEE what condition the rosette is in. post a picture. Furthermore, how can we tell if this is really THE EXACT SAME rosette from PDL's guitar, and not just a copy/replica? Can you PROOVE it? It just sounds dodgy to me...

I agree. If I was going to do this type of job, I would have routed out the old rosette, basically destroying it, and inlaying a new one in the chanel. I don't see how he removed the rosette completely. He would have had to cut it out leaving a big hole. How would a new rosette be fitted? I gotta see this.

well, I bid 5 US CENTS! No wait, make that 5 Spanish PESOS!!! or whichever is less! [:D]

And I just thought of something else: the rosette usually continues for a few centimeters UNDERNEATH the fretboard. So unless the fretboard was REMOVED during the refinishing, there would be no way to get it out. I guess you could BREAK the rosette where it meets the fretboard on either side, but it all sounds a bit dubious...

Hi all,

We already had a long thread to try to understand what happened with Paco's old guitar...and went to the conclusion that the rosette was indeed replaced, and the soundboard refinished but kept intact (same strokes in the wood behind the bridge).

I don't know exactly why, but I really think it's not a joke or a "scam", I believe Gerundino63, who's posting here since a long time.. Personally, I'm just not enought an "otaku" (die-hard fan) type of guy to buy Paco's (or whomever except Serranito [:D]) old rosette...

Saludos-
Legrec

Come on Peter.
Tell us the amazing story behind the facts.
Tell us why YOU are convinced that it's the real rosette just to convince us.[:)]

Well guys,

This isn'n so very difficult to solve,

The Mexican Luthier Luco C. Paidea is an anagram for Paco de Lucia......
Count 11 days from now, 21 march ( 11 is a fools number....) This must be April the first!

So, If you decide to buy the rozet right now, I give you 5 cut off nails from the manicure Paco had this summer on the Baleares for free!

Remeber, be quick!

LOL, I thought so! I'm gullible, but not quite THAT gullible! And remember, you have some serious luthiery GEEKS on this forum. But if it really WAS PDL's old rosette, I would have bought it, and put it in the blanca I'm making... It might magically improve my playing or something...

The fact that the rosette was replaced was not in question. What is, is how it was done in order to be able to sell an intact original rosette.
