Check out the new complete PdL video

Escribano -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 12 2004 20:41:20)

Great bass, other than that I didn't like it one little bit, couldn't seem to decide on what it wants to be - maybe it's the low compression rate? Really annoying, actually. Is it just me?

TANúñez -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 12 2004 20:50:16)

Yes it's just you [:-]

Conrad -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 12 2004 21:10:03)

My first impression was near yours, Simon. It does seem to wander some. And yeah, it could be the low compression. Sometimes when I go to Flamenco-world, for example, and listen to new Cd's I tend to get a listener fatigue and end up not buying anything because nothing hits me.

However, after watching this video a few times, I'm getting used to it. The beginning has a very nice feel, I think. A very nice melody.

Initially, I did not like the tangos from "Luzia" either, but have since grown to like it very much. Of course, there are still three bulerias' to check out, and a tientos (cool!). I only wish he did an alegrias for this new album.

I can't stand the audio/video on flamenco-world. They have to be the worst quality audio/video in the history of audio/video.

Their MP3 jukebox isn't, 192Kbps at least.

TANúñez -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 12 2004 21:49:30)

Ok video quality is what I should have said.

Patrick -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 12 2004 21:54:48)

I liked the bells at the end.

That's it! that's all your going to say? You liked the bells? You liked it? you didn't?

You thought it sounded new? you thought it sounded like everything else out there?

Come on Patrick. Break it down.

Conrad -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 0:26:04)

[:D][:D][:D]...

You guys crack me up!

Paco's actually done the bells before in "Cueva del Gato" from Almoraima. Still, I like them here, too. If anyone finds a better version of the video, please share here. I will keep an eye out for it, too.

nhills -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 1:17:33)

I watched and listened to the video clip. The musical equivalent of doodling.

Thomas Whiteley -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 2:29:56)

“Palmas” out of time. Guitar out of compas (sick). Slides on string squeaky. Drum thingy loud. Singer in another world and needs a make over. This should go Platinum within a week! Perhaps this was a new palo never heard before or just some excretion for our viewing and listening pleasure. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a ZERO.

I was not feeling well before I saw this and now I am really ill! [:D]

Patrick -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 4:57:25)

I really like the bells. They are nice bells. Can you hear the bells. I thought you could.

Tenshu -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 5:41:59)

I may be biased as Paco's greatest fan, but I think its amazing, the intro especially.

I think everyone is a bit frustrated, justifiably, because of the compas. I'm pretty sure, and I hope, the compas track was added later. My body rejected this dissonance between the composition and the compas first, but try to let the bad, BAD compas track go.

I'm sure, and I hope, the final CD track is going to be guitar/palmeros in one room.

el ted -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 7:39:21)

a GREAT man certainly, but I lost the plot with paco de lucia on Zyryab. Maybe I am just an middle aged old goat and am missing something!

Tenshu -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 15:31:13)

Actually guys, don't be mistaken. Cositas Buenas is an excellent composition. I'm listening to it right now, and it's beautiful. Very lyrical in places, very strong in others.

It's sublime, I don't like the jaleo singing however.

Don't hold back there Tom...tell us what you really think!! [:D][:D]

Actually it's too big for me to download on dialup easily, but I don't think I'll even bother now!

The Bells! The Bells.....

Conrad -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 16:38:16)

Hey everyone,

I found a promo for "Cositas Buenas" in which the song and parts of the video are played and it seems to be in better (although not perfect) quality. Here is the link: http://es.celebrities.yahoo.com/videos.html

scroll down to Paco

Anyway, we may find in the end that all of our grumbles about the song will be proved unfair.

Ron.M -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 21:38:14)

Finally managed to get a reliable link!
Well...It's OK.. A bit strange...I like it...I can't hear it out of compas(?) but I can't say it's radically different from any other modern stuff I hear these days.
The opening chords are interesting, like the start of a "Dubliners" tune.
Thereafter the harmonies are quite interesting.
A bit "off the wall" but definitely with Paco's "propio sello".
I guess when you've been up and down the fretboard as much as Paco, then even the weirdest chord inversions become boring! LOL!
What's with the big, long crombie coat?
Puts me in mind of John Martyn's "Glasgow Walker"!
http://www.grunthos.demon.co.uk/glasgow_walker.htm
But in Andalucia?

cheers

Ron

Billyboy -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 13 2004 23:31:53)

Paco seems to like his Fags, cigarettes for the Americans among us, I liked the Solea, like Ron said though, similar to a lot of modern stuff about these days

bailoro2000 -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 14 2004 9:08:49)

I got pasted on another forum for saying the footsteps and church bells were the most flamenco thing about this clip. Wanders about without saying much. Just my opinion.

Jim.

Phil -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 14 2004 17:00:41)

And you'll get a good pasting from me too if you use PdL's name in vain!!!![:D][:D][:D][:D]
Phil

bailoro2000 -> RE: See the new PdL video (Jan. 14 2004 18:25:47)

Whoops, better mind my PDL's and Q's then Phil. I'm out of favour enough elsewhere as it is. (((-:

Hey, I have quite a bit of PDL stuff, going back to "Canciones de Federico Lorca" (and beyond) when he was just a flamenco guitarist. Beyond Camaron he lost me somewhere along the way (although I did and do like Almoraima) and, like a losing boxer I was glad to hear the bell(s) on his latest masterpiece. But I promise not to swear in Church again.

Mea culpa etc etc ((-;

Jim.
