If it is nothing to do with pick-ups, it is to improve the intonation. These days, a lot of makers compensate the saddle (not so much with Flamenco guitars.Don't know why) this is just another way of doing that. But no, it is not very common. (Mar. 11 2007 2:58:02) hi: it obsolutely noting to do with pick up. it's a china made for export flamenco guitar model try out, just one, no label. it almost similar like yamaha cg171sf(color,solid spruse top, shape). except it has 2 sadles and 2 grooves. yeah, very strange. the action is higher than yamaha 171, but the sound is ok. i can't hear apparently which one is better. salud
