a_arnold -> micromosaic source? (Mar. 5 2007 21:22:31)

Anybody know of a source for the 0.5 mm square strips that are used to build the inlay blocks that go into rosettes? I've found them on the web once, so I KNOW a source exists, but I can't find it again.

I would never try to make mosaic from 0.5 mm square strips. For me that would end with a mess and the traditional technique is using other methods involving 0.5mm veneers cut to strips ca 2 mm wide glued together and then thinned to 0.5 mm.

I think that the source you are asking for is Luthiers Mercantile www.lmii.com which has strips that are 1.0 mm if I remember correct.

I have checked the LMI catalog. They offer rosette sticks that is 0.8 and 1.0 mm square.

I have no experience using square sticks like that and prefer using veneers that I cut and size myself. My guess is that this traditional method is traditional because it works.
