Stu -> La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 25 2007 11:55:26)

I've just got a tab copy of the above piece. Can anyone tell me the level of difficulty for learning this piece??

gerundino63 -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 25 2007 12:13:30)

Hi Manzmann,

The piece is difficult to play.
The difference in technique together with the speed and compas is difficult to execute.

But it is fun to study, and it stands on its own without a bass. or bongo or band.
Imo, one of the best Rumba guitar solo's.

Good Luck![:D]

Peter.

Hi Manz,
I think a good way to go with this piece is to simplify it down to sections rather than look at the piece as a whole.
Simplify the difficult parts, don't struggle with them...and above all, try to keep it moving.
Folk will forgive any fumbles and missed notes so long as they can tap their foot to it, but not the other way round!
Think of it mainly as little bytes of "playing" before returning to the "rhythm".
I had a go at it myself a few years back, but kept getting diverted by other things so I never ever got it finished to a reasonable standard.
(You know how it is..[:D])

Hang on...I've still got the intro part I did back then.

Good luck,

Great playing Ron, great sound and feel for the style.

Ron.M -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 25 2007 15:29:18)

Hey thanks Jim!
Do you see what I mean about trying to take it in little "bytes"?
That's what I had been working on in that clip.
Not thinking too far ahead...but in little individual mini-phrases.

cheers

Ron

Hi Manzman

I dont know where you are tecnically speaking, but if you are not high level, I will recommend that you start with the Rumba "Herencia Latina" From P. Peñas book/Cd Toques flamencos. Its easyer, but still a very nice piece.

Stu -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 27 2007 15:57:27)

Sorry for late reply fellas. I've been sick for last few days. When I say "sick" I mean
"Really Sick" my guitar didn't get touched for three days.

thanks for all the input.

RON:
Thanks for the clip. sounded great. its good to hear the piece being played by someone other that mr pena. I will start to break this peice down and get to work. maybe I'll post an mp3 of it, if I get it to a decent standard.

ANDERS:
I have been looking at Herencia Latina too! Maybe I will try to finish of learning this piece before I move on.
I posted a similar question on a Flamenco forum on myspace and a fella by the name of "Guitar Geek" told me he found herencia latina harder than la lola! ?? I'd have to agree with you though after looking at both of them la lola seems more difficult.

vasileos -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 28 2007 19:27:19)

Hello everyone,

I learned part of La Lola from a friend, but would like to learn all of it. Does anyone know where can I get the tabs/music for it? Also, I've looked for the Paco Pena CD with La Lola and I can't find it. Does anyone know what CD it's on and if it's still available? Thank you in advance.

Francisco -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Feb. 28 2007 20:06:59)

Hi Manzmann,

Sorry to hear about your illness. I was in the same boat 2 times in the last six months, but before that I hadn't been sick in years. I totally forgot how to be sick, and when it hit me, I was a whiney little baby![8|]

As to the difficulty of La Lola, I'm not sure, but it seems it would be relative to the technical ability of the player. That being said, I'm a proponent of attempting pieces that are difficult/challenging. Attention must be given to injury prevention, which for me is simply a matter of slowing my playing and avoiding tension, especially in my left hand.

When I hear of people learning a P. Pena rumba, it's usually La Lola or Herencia Latina, doesn't anyone like Rumbeando la Milonga?[:)]

Maybe you can upload a mp3/video when it's complete?

Good luck.

Adam -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Mar. 5 2007 1:05:05)

Sorry for being behind here (!) but where can I find a recording by Paco P of this rumba? I've never heard it before...

Anders Eliasson -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Mar. 6 2007 7:38:31)

Vasileos

There´s a Tabledit version out there on the net somewhere. Search and you´ll find

gerundino63 -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Mar. 6 2007 9:02:27)

Hi Guitaristas!

A few years ago I tabbed La Lola.
It is quite accurate, so if anybody wants a copy, send me an email.

( I tried to upload it here, but it is to big)

All the best,
Peter

el ted -> RE: La lola - Paco Pena (Mar. 6 2007 9:58:32)

It's on Sal's flamenco soap box, fully notated and tabbed.
