While wer'e on technical studies. I would like to ask a question...............

I have for ages had problems doing the golpe with my "a " finger, the nail is weak on this one only and keeps splitting, and in doing so, messes up my picking technique til it grows back in. So someone suggested months back on another thread that the "m" finger could be used. I have tried this for ages now, and just cant get comfortable with it. Yesterday I started trying to use the pinky for the golpe, I seem to be getting on ok with this way so far. Maybe lacking in power and volume at the moment but I think it might just do the trick.
Anybody got any kind of feedback on this one??? Does anybody else do it this way???[8|]

You may be being a little clumsy when you split the nail, thats usually why they break.
Are the edges of your nails rounded ?Square nails break easily.

Falsies tend to give one brittle sound, best avoided if you possibly can.

I do golpe with m,a and e together, i think most people do, it gives more weight and spreads the load for the nails.

If you are finding it hard to change your technique then you are probably not being patient/methodical enough. No offence intended there but if a we settle for bad habits too easily they tend to catch up with us.

Good luck, broken nails are depressing.

HUGH,

i had this problem, but i sorted it out by cutting the nail completely and them just using the fleshy underpart of the finger to tap, now my golpe does not sound as thin when i hit the tapa, it has more of a thump and the nail follows through.

I keep my nails roughly the same contours of my fingertips.
I never thought of using more than one finger (what an idiot I am). I just tried it there, it works great, and as you say - spreads the load.
Thanks guys [;)]
