Went to see Pitingo in Galileo Galilei, Madrid last Wednesday. (Refused offer of anything heart shaped for Valentine's day and demanded tickets instead!) Was a great evening so any of you who are UK based - I really would try and get to his London Concert on March 3rd. Will post a proper review later if anyone is interested. Karenanne

I should clarify; if it weren't for being on the inconvenient side of the Atlantic, I'd go to the London concert. As it is, I might recommend it to some friends there.

Who played with him? The London info seems to suggest that it will be just Juan Habichuela, which seems unlikely, but would bring out his more traditional side. Most of the album is pretty trad, but I've seen some clips on YouTube where he heads heavily off into Beyonce territory, so I'm curious about the Madrid show.

Yes, I think its that "Souleria" thats the modern one. My personal comment to Florian was that I thought Mariah Carey was gonna come in at any point! Personally, I'm hoping there's a good mix of modern and traditional at the London concert. If its just traditional, mi amigos will probably not want to go to it!

Steve, judging by the reaction he is getting I'm sure he'll be over your side of the Atlantic soon! In terms of guitar, it was Juan Carmona and it was amazing watching just the two of them on the more traditional cantes. I thought the whole souleria idea came over even better live than on the CD and there was a fantastic extended 'Familia Habichuela'. He even managed to get his version of 'Yesterday' in somewhere en route!! He talked quite a bit about the importance of soul and how he is using it but the whole show remained 'very flamenco' and it was great to hear him sing totally unaccompanied at one point. He got a standing ovation twice over so yes, I would recommend it to anyone you know over here - Just hope it translates to a less vocal, theatre audience but I'm sure it will. Karenanne

Ah, well that's what I thought. The London show is listed as 'Pitingo con Habichuela', maybe they just took it from the CD thinking that was his full name [;)]
