Tom, Ramon, Thanks SO much for your help. I didn't realize carbon fiber and graphite were different animals! Graphite (the mineral) is pure carbon, just like diamond but in a different atomic configuration, so I (wrongly, apparently) assumed they were the same thing. I guess geologists and luthiers speak different languages. Yes, please, I would like some info on carbon fiber and its sources. Is it really lighter than the graphite? The Graphite that LMI sells is sandwiched together with epoxy, and I know that epoxy is relatively heavy.
