Hi,

I think my questions have been answered before but when I tried to search for them there where no results. (searched for angle)

So, I read that the neck angle of a flamenco guitar should be less than a classical guitar but I cant find an exact figure to work with. In the book "Making Master Guitars" all necks are build with the same angle so the nut is 3 mm above the body. But how mutch should it be for a flamenco guitar ?

Second question, I want to make a Santos Hernandez flamenco guitar with wooden pegs but I cant find anything on how to build a head for them and how to make the pegs. I never used pegs and dont know anything about them so i'll write my questions below.

Are they taperd
how long should they be
how far do they extend above the head
can I make them from a warped ebony keybord

any help would be appreciated.

I also searched for angle. You have to be logged in and you should make a dot at the bottom at before one month.

Well, thanks for the quick response but this does not answer my question.
In the tread you refering to, one says its difficult to explain and the other I quote: "but tend to give my flamencos 1mm more in the jig"

So he adds 1 mm, still leaves the question wheter I should make it 2 or 4mm because I dont understand what he meens with "but tend to give my flamencos 1mm more in the jig"

And then there is the head with the pegs, anyone knows how to make them??

Well thats me saying that.

I´,m sorry I cannot explain it better.... Its a very complicated theme. And a lot of factors are involved in making a good neckangle....

A peghead is quite simple to make. Bore 6 holes, finish them with a 1/30 reamer and use some Viola pegs. Make sure each peg fits with its hole.
I will advice you to start on scratch......

I wrote this in another thread and it should give you an idea on what you are looking for. But it all depends on how you build and how thick you want the fingerboard to be.

You see the problem is that I dont understand words like possitive/negative angle and conveks/concave. Its been explained to me several times and I just dont get it[:-]

below I made a drawing with an exaggerated neck angle, here you can see that the end of the neck is going to be 3mm above the soundboard because the workboard has a slope for the neck when body and neck are glued together. (guitar is with the soundboard down) so my question is/was how much it should be for a flamenco. But I will make a drawing and see if I get the 2mm space at the bridge as you sugested.

As for the pegs, how thick sould the head be?

The GAL magazine recently put out an article by Aaron Green (?) showing how to make and fit flamenco pegs. Excellent article, I followed it for a Barbero that I just finished.

It looks like a good starting point to me. I dont give my flamenco guitars more than this. It all depends on your fingerboard, how thick you want it.

AND
Dont expect all your guitars to come out with these 3mm, because they wont. There are other factors involved, and thats why you need to final adjust with the fingerboard thickness and evt. angle.

I make pegheads the same thickness as standard heads.

Sorry it took such a long time... I dont even know if anybody is gonna read this but anyway...

Before I start i'd like to say that ist a realy nice peghead and perhaps I am gonna steal a litle bit[:)]

I did made some drawings and found that the angle is more to no angle at all than a big angle. But still I wonder if you taper the fingerboard from the nut to the soundhole and something that is even more mindbreaking, how do you measure the 2mm gap before you glued the neck and made a fingerboard[:-]

In Holland we have a saying "A fool can ask more then a 1000 wise man can answer" but I think you understand that I dont want to invent the wheel all over again...

In a couple of days Ill start building, first the garden, and the lawn then a little woodwork on the house cause the dog started eating wood[:@] and made some holes wich sould be repaired and so on...
