JBASHORUN -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 30 2007 21:15:25)

His English is not great, but his feedback seems good enough. judging by the photos, I would say the guy is a luthier... either that or the photos were taken at the Rodriguez workshop.

Guest -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 30 2007 21:25:02)

no i knew the story jbashorun, he s nt a luthier he is a player and his son also plays and he got the point of some people out of spain like you and me when they see this show got crazy and bid until death and he take the guitars and take some shot pics for them at workshops..and also he buy the guitars cheap and sell them very high and thats why conde posted on its site the warning , i ve a frined tried he s very happy now [X(] lol ,he s smart but nt honest .....

JBASHORUN -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 30 2007 21:43:15)

Aha, so the guitars are fake? I wouldn't have guessed that.

A quote from the Conde website:

WARNING INFORMATION

"We have found out fake guitars on sale, reportedly made by our firm. These fake guitars are shown on Ebay, auction online webpage and by an individual in Spain. We kindly ask our customers to be extremely careful whenever buying any piece outside our workshop"

http://www.condehermanos.com/indexi.htm

Just goes to show... you can buy fake Armani jeans and Louis Vuitton wallets, and now there are even fake Condes and Rodriguez guitars.

That is, if they actually ARE fake. I remember the last time everyone at the forum had a problem with a guitar seller... man, that caused a fuss... I think they threatened to SUE the website administrators...

1 bidder ....wasted [:D] he says Famous guitarists as Paco de Lucía, Vicente Amigo, Meringue of Cordoba lol sure they ve all the guitars from most of the luthiers , one of my dreams that will never come true to go to paco de lucia s home and see how many guitars he ve ??[8|]

legrec -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 1:38:49)

I don't know much about Jose Rodriguez, except that I've played one (the less good one, from a pannel of 7 guitars or approx.) and that in 2-3 years I've seen guitars from him jumping out for sale from everywhere (and very "recent" second-hand sales - 2003,2005,etc.).
But I don't think it's a fake, if there is a doubt about it (or were you only talking about fake condes?). Why would someone fake José Rodriguez ? IMO I don't think he's "considered as one of the three best builder of Andalusia" (hahaha - My grandmother is also the best builder in the world, just before Marcello Barbero and just after Emperor Palpatine). [:(]

I believe there are just second grade models...or perhaps even first grade, if he has a regular business directly with the builder ?
The ones I've seen for sale were called to be 1A but the price was still low (around 1500€).

And for "cheap" condes / fakes, there was someone on ebay france few months ago, who selled almost 10 entry level condes in some months. I've never managed to know if they were fakes, or just cheap condes from atocha bought as if they were donuts.

I've also a rather funny story with "fake" guitars : a guy bought a very expensive guitar from a builder in Paris, known for his "industrial scale". The guitar reveals itself to be really bad, with structural problem and dead sound...let's say 2500€ less than the price the guy paid. He was so pissed off. And he realized with speaking with other owners that there were lot of compaints about this maker.
This builder one day started to say everywhere that his guitars were "faked", somewhere in the world, without giving any precise infos. Most of the builders couldn't believe he was "faked", as his reputation is really not so important and because no one managed to see a "faked" guitar.
And some builders, close from the man, made the "hypotesis" that the builder was claiming there were "fakes" just to be able to "legitimate" the bad guitars coming out from his industrial working methods...

Nobody can tell for now what's the final point of the story, but if the hypotesis is true, I find this really funny (except for the guy with the dead guitar [&:] )

Patrick -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 6:38:17)

Guys...don't jump to conclusions too fast. The seller is very, very reputable even if his English is very poor. His son is Javier Conde. He has very high feedback for good reason.

I have heard nothing but good about his Ebay guitar sales and would have no problem dealing with him.

you know patrik if i was javier conde as you said i will never let my dad put my name on ebay , and if i was the dad i will never play with my son name on most of the guitars i sell .... if he cares ...[8|]

Ricardo -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 7:42:02)

I don't get what it is with everyone and the ebay stuff? Look, people sell things because they want to make money. So they do what they have to. Sure there are "scams", but it is always something with guitars on Ebay.

So this is Javier's Dad? I remember when he first appeared advertising a nice Conde. I thought, why sell it? And there is Javier with a conde, I met him face to face in Spain. So it is not like his dad was doing the world a favor since his son found a special guitar and now needs to pay for it (as it appeared in that early advertising). It is quite clear at this point that javier's dad is simply a guitar salesman. He makes money by buying guitars for one price, and unloading them for a higher price. So where is the scam or the shame or whatever???? that is business friends.

Perhaps Conde shop is pissed because they sell a nice Guitar to the son, because he is an upcoming star player, for 2000E. Then they find out that his dad sold it on EBay for 5-6000E. They have no right to be offended, if that is what happened. IMO.

OK. So his advertising is clearly a computerized translation from Spanish. Nothing "funny" about it. Just bad translation. Not a big deal. Rodriguez is a famous maker, sorry for those who think he is not. The photos show that, yeah it is true, the maker IS famous and many famous guitarists hung out at his shop and own his instruments. I have been to that shop myself in Madrid, bought a capo. That is all this is advert is saying. Not a big deal for people interesting in buying guitars, just a nice little bonus.

Javier is into playing guitars. His dad is obviously into selling guitars. Big deal? His dad was not like mozarts dad or something, hanging out at the course to oversee his prodigy son. I am sure they have respect for each other. His dad is not "using" his son for anything, nor does his son need to "not let" his dad do anything or not with his name.

I think if you guys are serious about buying guitars, don't waste your time wondering about where the "scams" and weirdos are on ebay. Just think about things for second before getting all paranoid and ****.

hey ricardo ....what i wanted to say was very clear that this guy is not honest 100 % and i think his feed back says so ...and his way when you send him a massage with spanish or english un belivable and i had alot of friends at spain like you have and my girl friend also from madrid and all they know this guy and also conde hermanos posted a warning about guitars on ebay and that was cause of some one i know he was selling him EF-4 as a concert guitar for 3500 usd okay and other rodriguez , and the way of posting the pictures , anyway i respect javier so much as a player and i am sure that he ve a very great future but i think this way he s dad doing is not good for his name , and plz reicrdo this is nt a matter of sayingthat the guy is bad but he s sneaky ...easy man ..easy ... madrid ...cordoba.... every place you ve been there we know but easy man ....[sm=rolleyes.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]

legrec -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 11:39:55)

quote:

Ricardo, I know Jose Rodriguez is rather famous, but won't you agree that it is not very exact or "fair" to say : "José Rodriguez is considered along with Manuel Reyes and Francisco Barba, the three best builders of Andalusia (Spain)."
Or probably you'll have to precise : "In my opinion, ...".

Being famous don't mean you can be put along with Reyes and Barba like this. I think this type of sentences tends to discredit the seller/his guitar, and leads 90% of the ads to the "point zero" of information or trustability. Kind of : "Put the name of your builder here " is considered along with Manuel Reyes and Francisco Barba, the three best builders of Andalusia (Spain)."
If one day I have a Rodriguez for sale, I won't write a sentence like this or perhaps if José reputation would have extend a LOT since when.

Just a question, as you went to his shop : how do you "rate" his guitars ? Did they please you ? (I ask because there are several second-hand for sale in France at a low price and I'm curious about all builders).

Last thing : the seller says "José Rodríguez Peña, es el único discípulo del gran Miguel Rodríguez(Córdoba). Él tiene su taller en Córdoba."
But by searching around the net, I can't find any info confirming this. At the contrary, most bios of Miguel Rodriguez says that his "unique disciples" were his sons, Miguel Jr. and Rafael.
Damn, is it possible that the seller said this because José Pena Rodriguez is working in Miguel Rodriguez's workshop, with his tools ????
Please, someone, put some light on this...
If he did not train with Miguel Rodriguez jr., I will definitly second some of the comments of Doublekk2 about the honesty of the seller.
(but I also don't see why he can't use his son's name to sell)

TANúñez -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 12:58:24)

This guy has a good reputation and he has the feedback to prove it. He's not the guy who was selling fake Conde's. A lot of the stuff he sells used to either belong to himself or his son. As Ricardo said, he's a salesmen. If your son is Javier Conde, why not use the name to help you sell? It's marketing. Doesn't mean he's selling junk or something like a Cordoba telling you the great Javier Conde plays one of these.

I don't agree with the Rodriguez Reyes and Barba comparison though. I have seen 3 Jose Rodriguez that buddies of mine here have gotten through that other ebay seller who always has these for sale. They are ok guitars. One of the 3 I played stood out. Really a nice guitar. Are they like Reyes or Barba, NO! If they were, they'd be a hell of a lot more in price and you wouldn't be able to pick one up on ebay anytime you wanted one.

ykabban -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 13:27:42)

Here's my take:

-I bought a Rodriguez from Jose Conde, and it's a great guitar for the money.

-Ricardo, I'm not sure what shop you're talking about, but J.R. is not in Madrid, he's in Cordoba. Moved from Jaen in 2005.

-Nunez, I think you may have your rodriguez's mixed up. I don't think there is another guy who sells these on ebay regularly, although I have seen used ones for sale.

-The sound sample that he has is mine.

-I would not compare these guitars to Reyes or Barba or anything else I own or have played.

As a final note, I talked to Jose Conde on the phone. He speaks zero English, and I do think the computer translations are very funny. But my mom is a Spanish, and her accent and word mix-ups have always made me laugh. \

Peace out.

Guest -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 15:36:05)

hey guys i just posted this to make you take care while dealing with ebay sellers specialy this guy who was selling ef-4 to a friend in a bad condetion for 3500 usd it was since 2 years and ****ed him up , and also i dont like the idea of mention the name of his son on selling , may be if he had a shop and selling guitars and that was better , but selling some guitars you can buy it from spanish shops and spanish sites with half of this figures is not excepted for me and i did mention this cause you all here friends , and i ve tried to send ya all a massage in a funny way and i think next time i am gona buy a guitar its gona be from the sites we all know ex: la falseta ,guitar salon , sure i like the guitars of andres alisson or from the shop direct etc ,.... i like javier so much and i think he have a good future waiting for him but i dont think that every guitar his father sell should mention that his son is javier and give every body the site to watch him taking pics with vicente and carmona and other celebrties ..... i think its not fare for the guy and i still saying this guy is not a scammer but he s snakey on his way of selling and not very honest.about knowing the guitars or not i think reacrdo just he likes javier as we all do , and i think any one share on this site from sharing he will know well about guitars and models from the descions .so lets end this and who wants to buy anything just have to be sure and ask before he do ....................[8|]

legrec -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 16:17:14)

This is it ! Damn there are so many "best builder of andalucia" in this world and even outside this world we can't count them [:D]

I agree with you Doublekk2, if you had some solid infos about problems with a seller, it's rather useful to tell it on the foro. It will make debates, and in the end, I hope, potential buyers would be more accurate on their purchase.

Man, does someone is able to say if Jose Pena Rodriguez really learn with Miguel Rodriguez Jr ? I know it's a rather difficult question, but perhaps some wise man have the answer...

Ricardo -> RE: very funny :O)) (Jan. 31 2007 19:17:23)

OOOps sorry guys, I think I was think of another Rodriguez.[:(] Anyway, the point is, when people need to sell things, it might seem that they are "snakey". But that does not mean the guy who SEEMS honest, is not lieing too. If any guitar is so good, why sell it??? You just must have money for your mom's operation and there is nothing else to sell or way of getting a couple grand quick???? I don't trust any one selling a guitar, and don't really care about that anyway. My hands tell me about the instrument, and I tune out the salesman all together. Not one word out of his mouth matters. When talking money, I know the guy does not want to lose out, but at some point, anyone serious about buying a guitar has to understand something about the market. Student guitar EF4 for 3500? It was such a bad guitar? did not know what EF4 means? Was lied to and thought it was A26? I mean come on guys don't "watch out" for just certain individuals, know your stuff that is all.

ykabban bought a guitar from the guy, lets say he got ripped off by the "snake". If he likes the guitar and feels it was a good deal relative to what he understands, how is that he got ripped off??? Doitsujin I think said once anyone paying 5000+ for a guitar is getting ripped off some how. Only people getting ripped off are folks getting either broken guitars, no guitars, or a guitar they don't like at all and can't get their money back. And without going into the whole thing again about personal taste, I have met folks with junk guitars that they love and spent a fortune on, and some guys who hate their guitar which personally I think is a treasure.

ykabban,

you are absolutely right. My mistake. The luthier I was thinking of is Juan Rodriguez.

Jose Rodriguez Peña is somehow related to Jeronimo Peña Fernandez. I don't know how close Rodriguez' guitars are to Peñas. Nor Reyes or Barba for that matter but if they are close then they must be outstanding guitars.

No, what it means is this is a bogus listing. The listing is a sham. First off, the guitar is supposedly located in Canada, yet he says he is from Spain and the father of Javier Conde. Second, although not always a problem, he has zero feedback. Third is his user name is not Jose Conde's. Forth, Jose always has text in English and Spanish.

All the guy did was copy Jose's pictures and text. This is not the first time this has been done. Ebay is a great place to buy, just do your homework. If it looks fishy, (even if it doesn't) email the guy and ask pertinent questions. Get a phone number. If you don't get it, move on to the next deal.

JBASHORUN -> RE: very funny :O)) (Feb. 2 2007 18:16:30)

He's right though, there does seem to be a lot of "scamming" about concerning ebay. If its not that one, its the one where the Chinese guys send sellers messages asking you to visit their website and "do business", or Nigerians sending phoney cheques.

sad really, it puts people off using Ebay altogether...

Patrick -> RE: very funny :O)) (Feb. 2 2007 19:57:04)

Here is the same Conde Jose had sold. You can see the guy just lifted the pictures and text. You can also see that it was sold to someone with an ebay name of "pablicki", not "mitchter33". And then the guy puts a starting bid of 600 bucks on a $5,000 to $7,000 guitar. Again these are all clues to look further or keep your dough in your pocket.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280064952241

It's really not that hard to do a bit of research and it could save you a bunch of headaches.

Michael1917 -> RE: very funny :O)) (Feb. 2 2007 20:43:01)

THE FOTOS WERE TAKEN FROM THE RODRIGUEZ SHOP. I EMAILED THE SHOP AND ASKED ABOUT THEIR GUITARS AND THEY SENT ME SOME FOTOS OF A SIMILAR BLANCA BUT WITH MECHANICAL TUNERS. Exact same tabel, same tools, etc.

Michael1917 -> RE: very funny :O)) (Feb. 2 2007 20:45:29)

I just read about some people getting ripped off by that guy on EBay. If you want the email for Jose Rodriguez and his shop, I can send it. It's also acessible online through a Google search. His guitars look very nice.
