duende -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 7:20:18)

didnĀ“t you get any software with the camera? some movie editing program?
if you did you should be able to convert the files in there somewhere

convert to...

or

Save as....

ToddK -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 7:20:58)

What is the camera model exactly?

I can help you, but i have to know what you're using Exactly.

I'll look it up.

I think a DVD camera would have a USB cable and software.

Im pretty sure you have to perform a "capture" to your hard drive.
You should be able to either capture it as a WMV or something like that.
If not, you'd capture it in full res, then render it to WMV using video editing software.

OK, now you're cooking. Thats about the right size for a 6 minute video
at full resolution.

Now, you need a software program to render it to WMV.

The camera may have come with software, i dont know.

If you're on Windows, and have XP Home, you have Windows Movie Maker.

Open it, and browse to your file, and open it. Then look for anything that says Render As.

its has to be WMV Romerito

its the best quality u can get for the smallest size, all the videos at Youtube are Wmv format.

and experiment with diff settings to see the quality and size u want for yourself.

On you bottom left corner or the screen

follow this directions....

Start/All Programs/Accesories/Windows Moviemaker

Open that program up, open the mpeg in it, and play arund in that, theres an option to save as Wmv

ToddK -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 11:03:23)

You need a software program. Im assuming Windows Movie Maker
would render to WMV, but i may be wrong.

I use Vegas Video, wich also by Sony. But its expensive.

You dont need something as deep as Vegas. Just something that
offers WMV renders.

The better software you use, the better it will look and sound.

You may just barely be able to get a 6 minute file rendered under
the 10 meg limit. But it wont look and sound great.

Better to let it be bigger. Wich brings me to a point you should be aware of.
Look for custom settings when rendering. There should be options wich
let you select how much you want to compress the file.
It will take some practice to figure out what settings give wich results at
a given resolution versus the running time.

I set my vids for 4 or 500kbps, and the audio is mp3 @ 320kbps.

Those numbers get smaller as the running time increases.

Arash -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 11:30:47)

there are also free software which convert video and audio formats.

look here: www.download.com and search for free video converting software.

I think with "Windows Media Encoder 7.1" you can convert to wmv file.

I could be wrong, but i beleive that "Converting" and "rendering" are 2
different processes.

When you "render" a file, you are also "compressing" it.

"Converting" a file is just that. Converting it to another file type.

So i dont think you can "Convert" a 90 megabyte Mpeg down to a 20 megabyte
WMV.

I would imagine the conversions take place with both files at the same size
and compression scheme.

Romerito, so maybe now you can see why we dont upload 100 videos
a week here.
In a way, its fairly easy. But its not THAT easy.

Even with the great technology, and gadgets working for us, it still
takes time and thought to do something decent, and more to make
something that really sounds and looks great.

So be patient. Im sure you'll be popping out some great stuff very soon![:)]

I use Vegas too, it's very good and costly. As Todd points out one cannot compress a heavily compressed video to another format and smaller size without losing tons of information.

Windows Movie Maker only renders to WMV - it will import AVI and various MPEG formats but there may be size and performance limitations in rendering a very large file.

Arash -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 12:13:11)

Todd you are right but i used the word "converter" for romerito as general description of such software and in some of these free converters, you can set many parameters like frame rate, resolution, video quality, etc. so kind of rendering.

I am not sure if windows media encoder does that. I just did a fast search.
I also have sony vegas now, so i dont use free software anymore but as far as i know romerito, i dont think he is going to spend hundrets of dollars for such a prog.[;)].
So better to find a free software for him.

However i had some of these free software in tha past and it works. you can compress and make the files smaller.

ROMERITO look here. Maybe this is good: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

Todd look at this screenshot. I think you can influence many parameters in these open source progs.

Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

ToddK -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 26 2006 12:34:02)

Yeah, Vegas is overkill for Romerito of course.

I see the screenshot, and that looks like it would work.

The question is, what would be the quality.

The thing about Vegas is, it does render to WMV extremely well.

Movie Maker isnt as good. And doing the conversion you describe would
be poorer still.

Im sure he'll be trying some things out this week.

I brought up Vegas cause if Rom spent a good chunk of change
on the camera, he might as well try to get hold of some semi pro
software that will bring that quality across to the net gracefully.

As we often talk about in the Audio recording section, there's no sense
in buying a great mic, if you're gonna plug into a 1979 Peavey mixer with
phono jacks.[:D]

Ricardo -> RE: crap-bup file- I can't upload video (Dec. 28 2006 0:30:16)

Romerito, you can put it up on youtube. They convert it for you, and it can be big, 100meg I think. Otherwise, I do stuff with Quicktime PRO. You just open it up with that then "EXPORT AS" and doit how ever you like. Make sure to keep you original though in case you mess up.

Ricardo
