TANúñez -> Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 17:47:24)

With all the different taste in guitars we have I'm curious about our tastes in music.

What is your all-time favorite album? You can only pick one so think abouit it.

Picking just one is hard because I love the new stuff as much as I love the old stuff. I'm going to have to say my all-time favorite is Manolo Sanlucar's "Tauromagia"

Miguel de Maria -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 18:00:20)

Me too. Second, for all its faults, is Zyriab.

TANúñez -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 18:01:24)

No seconds Miguel that's another topic [:-]

gerundino63 -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 18:25:30)

Azahara, Paco Pena

For me... That is the cd that really got flamenco in my blood.

(If I may, or can ever say that.)

have heared, and will hear it for 1000's times.

Peter.

"Flamenco Puro" baby!!!!!

The one and only!! LOVE IT!! 20 years after the first listen, and it still
sounds fresh and magical. [:D]

Ron.M -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 19:40:05)

Hmm...if I can only choose one, then it would have to be Fantasia Flamenca by PdL.
The sound is so fresh and I can still hear all the tunes in my head.
(More convenient than a CD or mp3 player and you don't need headphones LOL!)

cheers

Ron

Poeta de esquinas blandas by El Pele and Vicente Amigo.

An easy one for me.

It still inspires me.

Anthony

Paleto -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 21:40:03)

Todd, is that Sabicas?

TANúñez -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 21:43:37)

Hi Paleto. Yes it is Sabicas. Flamenco Puro, one of the greatest ever!

Tough to pick just one, but for me it's a tie between Paco de Lucia's "Fuente y Caudal" and "Almoraima". Definitely a couple of the few albums I will listen to from beginning to end anytime I put in on.

Thomas Whiteley -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 18 2003 23:48:09)

Tom;

Well, if I am allowed only one album then it must be Carmen Amaya and Sabicas - “Queen of the Gypsies”, done in one take by the way.

By the way Domingo Alvarado is the Cantaor, and Diego Castellon is the second guitarist (the brother of Sabicas).

This is flamenco at it's finest!

Phil -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 0:39:26)

It's really difficult to choose just one, but for a guitar oriented recording (and this is primarily a guitarist's forum) I'll also go with 'Tauromagia'. It was a tough choice between that and 'Fuente y Cuadal' and ' Almoraima'. As much as I claim to be a traditionalist, I never get tired of listening to 'Tauromagia'. I hate the orchestration on that Cd. In fact, I normally don't even like 2 guitar Flamenco, but there's something about Sanlucar's playing and the beauty of the compositions on that recording that have held my interest for 15 years. Looking at the cover right now, I just noticed that Vicente Amigo was the 2nd guitarist. I never knew that. Anyway, as much as it strays from traditional Flamenco, I've always said that it is the most 'Flamenco' of anything that Manolo Sanlucar has recorded. And there's not a guitarist alive that has a tremolo like him. IMO 'Oracion' is the most beautiful guitar piece ever recorded in any genre. Plus I love the singing on that CD.

Phil

TANúñez -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 0:54:14)

Hi Phil. Mine was a toss up between Tauro, Fuente and Almoraima too! but since I said only one, I had to go with Tauromagia. It truly is a beautiful album.

The more I listen to it, the more I want a Ramirez negra. Just like the one Eddie past down to Dimitri who passed it on the Patrick.

I haven't read the cover of the CD in so long. I didn't know Vicente played on it! I don't recall seeing his name. Wow

Florian -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 1:54:54)

My favourite is Taller De Granada, I dont think its acctualy released I somehow got my hands on it from a friend. It has no big names as far as i know, it was recorded in a dance studio, is not the most brilliant album i ever heard but for some reason i replay it the most.

Guest -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 12:17:17)

Toss up between Juan Serrano's "Viva la mano" (My vynil copy is amost unplayable now, I played the grooves off it.) and Juan Martin's "The solo album" including his great bulerias with metronome. This guy is seriously under-rated. Just IMO.

Jim Morris.

TANúñez -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 12:27:54)

Jim! Where the heck have you been? Hope everything is good with you. Stop by more often.

Guest -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 13:02:55)

Hi Tom.

Kept on my toes running the "flamencodancer" foro these days, but I read the messages here and throw in a little nonesense from time to time. Good to hear from you.

Best..

Jim

Escribano -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 13:24:19)

Haven't heard it yet, but I keep going back the my "Rough Guide to Flamenco" CD - the one that got me started - Pepe Habichuela, PDL, Tomatito & Camaron, Morente, Pata Negra, Potatito etc...

Florian -> RE: Favorite Album (Dec. 19 2003 13:43:16)

Potatito :))

Ok well taking my cue from Simon I am going to say my favourite flamenco album is also the first one I bought which was 'Los Gitanos Canta Lorca'. And if I had a copy in front of me I'd tell you what is on there but it appears to be missing which usually means Harold has put it in his collection forgetting that it's mine [:@]

Your forgiven. The price helped as well. 2 CDs for about a mil pesetas.

What about El Duende Flamenco? Come on everyone! For me, it's gotta be a tie between that (without the orchestra), Siroco, and Almoraima. Ahh, Paco. [:)]
