Ricardo -> RE: camaron movie (Nov. 15 2006 7:11:13)

Not bad. I prefer to just see performances, but it is cool. The actors did great with synchronization. Story is OK.

I think most biographical movies usually feels like charicatures, but i like the view they give of an artist and certain scenes from them makes books about the same artists a bit more alive if i reread them after ive seen the film.

Ive only seen clips but this feels like a bit of the same.

The Flamenco Clan

You can rent it from Netflix too.

FWIW, here's my review of Camarón:

I'd recommend Vengo. Plenty of performance in it and subtitles around too for those who don't speak Spanish.

"Ines, Hermana Mia" with the late, much-lamented Pedro Bacan is excellent. There's a great bit when La Fernananda is on her cell phone... I'd also recommend "Agujetas Cantaor" by Dominique Abel.

PabloMadera -> RE: camaron movie (Apr. 26 2011 19:01:26)

I thought the movie about Camaron was poor, my main beef with it is that large parts of it are fictional, the director even said as much. from Flamenco-world:

‘Camarón’, in the words of its director, Jaime Chávarri, is a “fictional film in which believable things are attempted to be told. It's not a lie”. The Madrilenian filmmaker's intention is not to give an exact reflection of the facts and personages. Nevertheless, he wanted to preserve the most significant places in the life of José Monge Cruz.

I hear from a friend of Camarons family (and from others) that it doesn't portray him well at all. I never met him, but I choose to take them at their word ;)

As far as other flamenco movies there is "Vengo", which I actually liked.
