tk -> RE: 1988 Reyes for sale (Nov. 14 2006 2:31:42)

nealf,

I had noticed this one long time ago. It is not in good condition. Well, let me tell you that it had a pick up whole and was removed. Also, the top has alot of wear and dings.

Soundwise I don't know. What GSI had was an 83 in "MINT" condition. I have seen the guitar and it was very good one and it didn't even have the smallest mark of playing on it. So the difference between GSI's and this one is the fact that GSI's was like new from the shop in original condition. GSI sold it in 2 days, this one in Australia had it for months. GSI's Reyes would sound much better with couple of years of playing. As if it was new from the Reyes shop.

Sure.. Just wanted to add to the public announcement that I know about the 88 Reyes and wanted to share more about its characteristics.

Whether the buyer who paid $20K for the 83 is an idiot or not, is a different topic. For someone who has that much money, would pay for a guitar from the best guitar maker in this century. And for those who don't have that kind of money, well all they do is try to find something to justify why they are not buying an expensive guitar.

No need for sorrys,

there is a big difference in "taking a comment personally" vs. responding to a comment that has no substense with the hope of educating someone, if you know what I mean... [8D]

imho only an idiot would spend $20K on a guitar, a really BIG idiot

The way I look at it is that if you buy a guitar like this, the money is not spent.
I mean, it's not like buying a chocolate bar, eating it and goint to the loo. You have the guitar, you can enjoy it for as long as you want and so long as you take care of it, there will always be someone out there wanting to buy it from you and probably for more than you paid.
So what's the problem?

tk -> RE: 1988 Reyes for sale (Nov. 14 2006 18:12:45)

Exactly my point. At least there is someone who knows how to enjoy life without losing a dime on an investment[:)]

It wasn't directed at you or tk or anyone else who owns a Reyes or whatever but if you took it to heart then I guess theres a good reason for that ..... Aren't you the dude who bought a Reyes recently?

Hi nealf,

It's strange the way these posts can become confusing and I guess folk can go off on a tangent.

Yes! I bought a Reyes recently and I posted a few steps earlier on this thread. But I don't know if you are directing this paragraph to me? as you have posted your reply to yourself and that makes it hard to know exactly who you are directing your question to.

I didn't read anything in this thread earlier that made me feel there was a problem and I don't understand your comment about 'frikin politically correct tight-ass' so I guess this is either just your humour (althought the lack of a smiley when you use them elsewhere, makes me think you are being serious?) or, perhaps I'm missing something from an earlier thread?

Anyway, no problem.[sm=rolleyes.gif]

Geez, lighten up old timer, I have no problems at all amigo - I make a joke about spending $20K on Reyes and you get all uptight? Lets not get our knickers in a twist guv.

Nealf,
While I like a lot of your posts, this is not one of them.
That quote above says about 4 very hurtful things in one sentence.
I've known Jim a number of years now and he's a completely straight, kind and thoughtful person.
What do you mean by "old timer"?
Somebody used that kind of language to me a few months back and I reacted as well.
So what does it mean?
That we are "past it" and our views irrelevant?
Just because we don't talk jivespeak and hiphop and hang out where the action's at?
PdL's older than either me or Jim.

Now I am NOT inviting a response or an argument here.
So please don't start.

Just please tone your language when talking to other members.
It's not helpful.

Ron

cool man, perhaps I overreacted to being asked "whats the problem?" by Jimbo, I'll delete all my posts here lest I offend anyone else.

but I still think anyone spending $20K on a guitar is an idiot, and I'm not joking.

Hi nealf,

No need to do that (delete posts) I'm not in any way offended. I didn't even know you were directing your comments to me until your last post.
So absolutely no problem.

However, I need to correct any missunderstanding that anyone may have reading this thread. So I want to make it clear that I did not buy my Reyes for $20k. In fact nothing like it.

She's a very fine Reyes in pristine condition.
I got her from Chris Kamen (Originally owned by hhill on foro) and here's a link to the site so you can take a look. http://www.classicguitar.com/87Reyes_lg.html
(Hope it works)
She's powerful, bright, crisp and with a real Reyes flamenco voice - throaty yet very musical. A very fine, rare instrument and a joy to play.

id·i·ot (ĭd'ē-ət)
n.
A foolish or stupid person.
A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.
[Middle English, ignorant person, from Old French idiote, from Latin idiōta, from Greek idiōtēs, private person, layman, from idios, own, private.]

Now let's see, what might we call someone who tosses around this term randomly and with no regard for the consequences:

One deficient in judgment and good sense: ass, fool, imbecile, jackass, mooncalf, moron, nincompoop, ninny, nitwit, simple, simpleton, softhead, tomfool. Informal dope, gander, goose. Slang cretin, ding-dong, dip, goof, jerk, nerd, schmo, schmuck, turkey.

Rain -> RE: 1988 Reyes for sale (Nov. 18 2006 16:08:40)

I played a Reyes once and let me tell you its truly a magical instrument.

Soon as I held it in my arms i felt its magic. I was able to play and sound just like Vicente Amigo. In the few moments i had to play the instrument, I was able to play pieces that I never studied---for example La Barrosa. I was playing in compas and my picados went from 140bps to 350bps!!! Yes people thats right 350bps--yup 16n notes.VRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM.
The instrument gave me special powers. I was no longer that guy who was playing simple falsettas but someone who I know call SENOR "R".

That of course only lasted a few moments. And I did lose all my special powers once the EVIL SELLER took the guitar back.

You know if you guys took up a collection for me and bought the guitar, then maybe I once again can play in compas.

Ramón -> RE: 1988 Reyes for sale (Nov. 22 2006 14:12:22)

Jim,

A beautiful guitar... Having made a copy that kind of blows me away, I can only imaging how incredibly good The Real Thing is....

It's worth what it's worth to a buyer. Period. And I haven't seen any Reyes, Rodriguez, Hauser, Fleta, or Fernandezs' on sale lately..

Or did I miss that Big Sale at WalMart AGAIN on collector flamencos!?? OHHHHHNOOOOOOO! [:@]

Enjoy! She's a babe!

Yes, very special.[:)]
Thing is the amazing ring from the 1st string. The whole guitar is alive but it's as if the guitar has been constructed to compensate given the 1st string takes the tail end of the stroke on most rachaos, if you know what I mean.
Basses are quite deep and dark sounding for a blanca.

Ramón -> RE: 1988 Reyes for sale (Nov. 23 2006 15:00:02)

If anyone is on this site in or near San Diego and has a Reyes, I would LOVE to see and hear one - and bring mine - just 'to see'... Besides, if I get a chance to build again, it would be nice to see some visuals..

I know GSI has one occasionally, but I may or may not be deemed 'worthy' by Tim or the staff to play one, as I understand ( and I've been told this by a few people now, so I'm THINKING it is true) they give you a guitar to play when you come in, and THEY decide what you will get to see and play.

Dan Zeff guitars has had as many as 9 or 10, but they are always sold immediately. And since he NEVER changes his website, there's no way to tell what he has or has sold, when, where, etc...lol

Thanks

Fire off an e-mail to hhill on Foro.
Can't quite remember exactly where he is but I recall it's down your way. Mmmm... US is huge I know, he could be the equivilent distance from here (Glasgow) to moscow for all I know[:)]
