Wonderful! Not seen that one before.

I love this Solea too.

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 2 2023 6:33:33)

This is not just Jero, but I did not know another thread to share this. What a fine buleria..

silddx -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 2 2023 7:18:41)

I really like what I've heard of Salao. This is a lovely Solea.

TrickyFish -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 2 2023 10:41:28)

Jeronimo’s latest album, recorded at solera flamenco, is absolutely fabulous to my ears. I can’t stop playing it.

To me, its much more refined than his earlier works.

JasonM -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 2 2023 14:47:17)

So it looks like Solera now has what looks like a flamenco guitar theme park. I wanna go.

Take a ride on the Camaron Coaster!!

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 5 2023 11:08:26)

Una Alegria to raise the spirits a bit

Special reference to the see through shirt and the shirtless t-shirt, for you know who, that was asking a while ago about how flamencos should dress for performance[:D]

Echi -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 5 2023 12:24:35)

I always liked Jeronimo's style and considered him among the best live performers.
I think Solera has a merit to promote him to the internet audience and to push him to give an order (sealing in the format of songs) to the many falsetas he had been building up in many years of shows.
It's at my eyes a little like Diego del Morao: few recordings but with a definite style and a lot of ideas.
In this days I'm fond of Jeronimo as of Luciano, Dani de Moron and the always good Chicuelo.

Loving this!

Ricardo -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Mar. 24 2023 10:50:04)

he used to be the most out of left field alien player...now he sounds like old Moraito. Those orthodox rasguedos right on the beat, etc. I guess it is maturity? I remember when Moraito passed away, and they had a tribute concert and the guitar players were all over the place with the exception of ONE orthodox guy who understand WHY you need to accompany the cante THIS way (the way Jeronimo is playing here). Juan Diego I think?

Or maybe it is because like Morante always point out... the guitar is not really "flamenco'" by itself. As you go deeper into the cante, we learn it requires this type of toque.

I thought he had always kept it fairly orthodox por cante? And the left field alien stuff for solo.
e.g.

Here at this tempo a mix of his more personal style/syncopation, but still some orthodox phrases/playing in there as well?

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Jun. 4 2023 15:35:43)

It is very rare to hear Jeronimo playing a rumba.

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Jun. 30 2023 13:00:51)

Awesome! Thanks for this! Love it.

That's an interesting quote from "Morante." To which Morante are you referring?

The gentleman that posts on the foro here, aka, Sean O’Brian. He always keeps it real by posting cante videos and explaining to us all that this foro is a “guitar” foro, meaning, flamenco is cante based. The truth behind that sentiment is that he knows fully well that flamenco is a triad of cante, baile, and guitarra, and each can express flamenco in a “solo” capacity, but the general misunderstanding about the music, as if when decoupled from a singer, the guitar is totally free of SONG structure, leads people to under value the singer and the importance of the songs themselves. There is a reason to keep the singing alive and central to what flamenco actually is about.

Thank you!

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Aug. 27 2023 5:45:59)

In the video he also "advertises" Felipe Conde sons' guitars, as Felipe Conde Crespo is making a replica of Jeronimo's guitar and I think selling it through Solera flamenca. He says he plays that guitar now. Most obviously it was given to him to promote it. Nevertheless I slightly remember that old Esteso of Jeronimo, It was a nice instrument.

The video also has that "phone camera" guitar recording someone likes these days [:D]

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Aug. 27 2023 5:48:57)

Here is the guitar Felipe Conde Crespo makes

I remember him having some ugly thing made by Andalusian guitars a while back. This looks so much nicer. 8k though!

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Aug. 27 2023 15:29:50)

I never remember him playing any andalusian guitars model ever. Do you mean this lazarides guitar that had a bit of a big rosette?

I think the Jeronimo Maya Lazarides guitar (below) decoration is referencing Torres?

Can't find the exact Torres rosette, this one is similar:

Torres also kept it simple and elegant, e.g.

I am probably thinking of someone else [:)]

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Aug. 27 2023 16:59:53)

Here it says that is an exact replica including the ornamentation of the rosette.

AndresK -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Sep. 7 2023 8:10:02)

How is this even possible? I have to rehearse countless hours after studying an eternity to play 1% of the notes they used in 4 times simpler rhythm. Anyway you get the idea [:D]

Manitas de Lata -> RE: Jeronimo Maya (Jan. 12 2024 1:11:21)
