I like soleares because a) Plaza Alta by PDL and b) i find as a beginner guitarist solea is an easy palos to play in a basic form and then you can adapt it to suit you and add little touches more easily than some other palos.

What is yours??

I guess it depends on who's singing and where. If its a crowd in a bar clapping and having fun then you cant beat bulerías and tangos but then again late at night when an old guy starts tapping his stick and singing a Martinete or a Fandango it's pure magic. There's probably a palo for every mood and emotion so it depends on that as well.

i like soleá both sung and for guitar.
But i think Siguiriyas is my favorite palo for singing.

Anyone who doesn't say "Rumba" should be ashamed of themselves!

Just kidding...

It sounds like an obvious choice, but you can't beat a good Bulerias! There's just something "energetic" about them.

Other than that, I'm quite fond of Farrucas for some reason... Juan Serrano's "Luna Y Clavel" and Sabicas' "Punta Y Tacon" really appeal to me.

But as said, it really does depend on WHO is playing/singing. I could probably find examples of the same palo by different artists that I love/hate.

I haven't been playing for very long, but what attracted me to the genre initially was Rumba.

I then started to work on/like Tango, but only briefly as Alegrias became my focus. The happy sounding flamenco really has a special place in my heart (Alegrias, Columbianas, Guajiras etc).

I do like Bulerias, especially the funky/groovy sounding bulerias. However, I'm starting to grow fond of Fandangos.

Thats actually a really good question, i didnt think it would be so hard when i wrote the post. Kate makes some good points about it, it depends on whats going on i guess. If your at a party with a lot of people who arnt flamencos, ironically enough rumba probably would be one of the more enjoyable things to just jam along to and you know people will enjoy.

Purely from a guitarists point of view i always seem to warm up with solea, like you say its easily adapted to suit your own level. I love tarantas, more for the key than anything. Also granaina i find the key very rewarding and rondena tuning as well. Buleria of course is the most exciting (and challenging) to play, and tangos is always fun.

Im going to have to go with 'it depends'. Theyre all good though. The one palo i want to work on and get to a reasonable level is buleria, not necessarily in the normal key though. I cant even answer this question with a single palo, i guess its not that black and white![&:]

Depends on the focus.

Cante-Fandangos, or media Granaina/Malagueñas, depends on the singer.
Baile-Solea
guitar -Rondeña

When all three come together, it is Bulerias de Jerez for me.
