John O. -> RE: Finding "pure" cantes. (Nov. 3 2006 15:09:39)

"Cantes Gitanos" from La Nina de los Peines is very good. Most albums I have are mixed, but there's always one or two good "old school" [:D] palos on each one. If you really mean the lyrics though, to be honest I never paid a lot of attention to the letras (I'll always admit my ignorance [:D]). Esperanza Fernandez for example has a lot of arrangements on her album, but there's also a beautiful seguiriya and a kick-ass buleria on there I love to listen to and play along with - it's about my favorite album. I'll see what I can find. I have all my flamenco tunes as mp3 on my computer...
