Hi guys, I just wondered if anyone has this little gem in their cd collection?? It is Paco and his brother Ramon de Algeciras. The one I have is a compliation of the three hispanoamerica cds. The first time I heard it I was 'suprised' to hear Paco playing some sort of south American version of 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps'! ('Quizas, quizas, quizas' as it is called on the album!)' A bit different from Almoraima! However it has really grown on me. It is my album I listen to to cheer myself up or help to wake up in the morning Ok, perhaps it wont be remembered as his masterpiece but still very enjoyable, I especially love the track 'Granada' - the opening sounds like it has been lifted from a spaghetti western!

Hi Romanza,
I've got the LP somewhere I'm sure.
It's one with Paco and Ramon playing stuff like "Qué Será Será" and "Jealousy".
The guitar playing is good, but the orchestration is a bit too heavy IMO.

I think it was called "Dos Guitarras en Hispanoamerica".
Paco must have been about 17 or 18.

cheers,

Ron

Thats funny. In the last 4 weeks I heared this CD houndred times. And I took a composition from this disc in our repertoir. I like it, too. But now I need a pause from south america... I dream of the buena vista social club, chilli con carne and speedy gonzales...aahh!

Sorry to be of the subject a little but my step dad just gave me a couple old albums that are in mint condition. He gave me Al Di Meola (casino), and Passion Grace and Fire with John McLaughlin, Al di Meola and of course Paco De Lucia.
I thought this was very cool to get this.

Man, I think it's an absolutely horrible album. OF course he has the great technique, but he doesn't capture the South American aire at all. Basically just plays everything too hard and fast. I have a couple albums with he and his brother playing South American music that are just terrible.

Hey, can't win 'em all, right?

Romanza -> RE: Paco's Hispanoamerica cd (Oct. 3 2006 16:28:01)

ha ha i knew it would be a contentious one! i've never actually been to south america but for me (like doit) it certainly conjures up images of sombreros catci and other such stereotypes..

Sombreros and cacti in South America?! That's more of a Sonoran Desert image. Or maybe spaghetti westerns with fake cacti and Clint Eastwood in Andalucia :)

My parents really enjoyed this CD... my father was clacking away to "Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps", whilst my mother even asked me to play the CD again after it had finished (something she doesn't usually do). She seemed to think one of the songs was similar in structure to an Austrian folk song, although I couldn't hear it.

Not sure what that says about my parents' taste in music, given Miguel's comments! [:D]
