so i just had my second lesson with my new teacher (my first pure flamenco instructor), frederico out of art valdez's guitar shop on sunset in LA. it has been really great. he's traditional and his first words to me were that he liked the way i played, meaning i play somewhat hard and like to really dig in. so its a great match and what a compliment on the first day!

as good as it is, it just reinforces the idea that i will never find the perfect teacher in one person. he's a traditional solo player and he teaches mainly by him playing, me copying. and he gives me these hand drawn tabs which took me a while to get used to.

but there's been no stress on compas, which i had to ask him about when learning this siguiriyas. and i actually like scales and exercises and need some theory work too but i guess i'll be suplementing those on my own. i asked and he's going to work on compas with me from now on.

not complaing but just wish i had the time and money to get lessons from:
-a pure flamenco accompanist
-a classical player
-a flamenco solo player
-a music theory and guitar generalist
-a jazz guitarist

if you know of this guy all rolled into one, send me their info!

i think i recommended stephen dick to you some time ago
for the most part, he meets all of your requirements except the jazz part, though i have never asked him if he has had any sort of jazz training.

he went to school at the New England Conservatory of Music to study music and music theory for classical guitar
he accompanies his wife and was taught by manolo sanlucar and domingo rubichi

hes my teacher by the way

hey juben,

thanks, i do have his site bookmarked from your first reccomendation. i was going to test drive him next month actually and double fist the lessons for a bit. i also really liked the idea of his saturday group lessons. have you taken part in one of these? my initial hesitation with stephen is that he requires a four lesson/$200 commitment. maybe i can try him out just for one session.

i just remembered a friend of mine takes ballet from two different teachers in addition to salsa lessons, so why not two teachers? for a bit at least.

thanks for the info again.

doug
