so i just had my second lesson with my new teacher (my first pure flamenco instructor), frederico out of art valdez's guitar shop on sunset in LA. it has been really great. he's traditional and his first words to me were that he liked the way i played, meaning i play somewhat hard and like to really dig in. so its a great match and what a compliment on the first day! as good as it is, it just reinforces the idea that i will never find the perfect teacher in one person. he's a traditional solo player and he teaches mainly by him playing, me copying. and he gives me these hand drawn tabs which took me a while to get used to. but there's been no stress on compas, which i had to ask him about when learning this siguiriyas. and i actually like scales and exercises and need some theory work too but i guess i'll be suplementing those on my own. i asked and he's going to work on compas with me from now on. not complaing but just wish i had the time and money to get lessons from: -a pure flamenco accompanist -a classical player -a flamenco solo player -a music theory and guitar generalist -a jazz guitarist if you know of this guy all rolled into one, send me their info! doug
