"Gut string"? You mean a proper gut string? I didn't know these were still sold/used any more... are they? Where can you buy gut strings, and are they expensive?

Cheers,

JB

I got some from ricardo sanchís last time I went to his factory.

there is also a german company who make handmade strings called Knobloch.

Are you sure it was a gut string and not some type of composite G like the ones used in the D'Addario set?

Luke,

Just to clarify the situation, "gut" strings are strings made from REAL animal gut... as far as I know they have not been used since the old days (for various reasons), which is why I was surprised that you found some. Although I think one of my luthiery teachers said he used some on a lute (or some other period instrument) he made. So I assume they are available somewhere, but if I remember correctly, he said they were very expensive.

I didn't say they weren't available, I just said that they were rarely used, for various reasons.

The Labella ones also cost $40 per set, which might have something to do with it.

jb,

I bet you don't have the GUTS to pay $40 for a set [8D]

Tom, not only do I not have the guts, but I don't have the money either! I payed £11 for a pack of Savarez Alliance strings yesterday, and personally I thought that was outrageous. Those strings are gonna stay on my guitar until they literally disintegrate!!! [:D]
