AgoraGallery -> Flamenco Art in New York (Sep. 12 2006 12:15:26)

Agora Gallery Presents:
Verve and Reverence / A Collective Exhibition showcasing Flamenco paintings by Dutch artist Kitty van de Rijt, running from September 28 to October 18, 2006.

The fluid female forms emerge out of Kitty van de Rijt's striking canvases like memories or apparitions. The gentle outline of their bodies makes them seem both human and not, affirming the enigma of humanity. Although the figures are anonymous, we feel their intimate presence.Rijt fills the rest of the canvas with broad, swift strokes that speak of passion, tension, desire, danger, and melancholy. They speak of love. On Rijt's canvases, the graceful bodies are inseparable from the extravagant colors that surround and obscure them. The expressive layers of warm tones let the viewer see the human forms as if through a colorful veil. Surrounded by such powerful color fields, the figures seem almost abstract. Yet, they are characters in a passionate story, willing to open up their soul to anyone who will listen. What they will find may be a lonely melody or an emotional crescendo.

Kitty van de Rijt's Flamenco paintings will be on display in New York in Verve and Reverence / A Collective Exhibition, running from September 28 to October 18, 2006. The reception takes place on Thursday, October 5th, 6-8 PM at Agora Gallery, 530 West 25th Street in Chelsea, New York.
