Hiya all,

Ive just got Pumping Nylon which im sure you are all aware of, however due to it being in standard notation I cant read it. Ive decided I want to learn to read music to play both classical and flamenco, however im unsure of how i relate the music notation to the strings, frets and notes on the guitar.

If anyone knows of a good site, book or DVD/CD that could teach me the fundementals of how to actually play a piece on guitar through standard notation and how the transcriptions relate to the guitar, I would be very very gratefull!

This probably belongs in the General section and Ron may move it. However, if possible I highly recommend you get a teacher!! That will be the fastest and most practical way.

Hal Leonard Publications has a pocketbook entitled Pocket Music Theory which I would highly recommend to you.

BTW Pumping Nylon Vol 1 and 2 are excellent technique books for classical.

Just remember, it "ain't" gonna happen overnight!!! Six-months to a year or more, depending on your dedication, study and practice schedule to learn the fundamentals of music theory and the fretboard, open position to say 7, perhaps higher.

Some here may maintain that leaning standard notation is not necessary for flamenco and may in-fact be a hinderance. I do not fall into that school of thought!
