First I want to say hi to everyone since this is my first post here. [:)]

A little about me:
I started playing guitar when I was about 12 years old. Been playing many different types of music. Unfortunatly I am self taught so I dont know alot of useful things that would make me a much better player. I am 21 now and I have been playing flamenco/Classical for at least 2 years.

My question is the following. There is a technique that I want to learn, I dont know the name of it but I will describe it. It's when you strum all 6 strings very fast. I can do the one where you flick your fingers one after the others. I'm talking about the one where you hit the strings down with ur fingers, again with ur thumb and back up with your thumb. I'm not sure if thats how you do it but maybe you guys can correct and if possible give me tips on how to practice this.

Thumb up, middle or middle and ring down and thumb down slowly.123 123 123 ect.
Use the wrist more in the beginning then try to use fingers and wrist.
Or the old way, Thumb up pinky down, index down, but when done fast the middle hits as well and sounds cool.
Or just thumb up, ring down,index down.
I know some stuffffff huhuhuh wow.[:)]

Lots of choices sorry. pick one that feels right.

All these strumming techniques are called Rasgueado. There once was a book or article which described 50 or more of them, and each produces a distinct sound. The one you describe (ipp) produces a very powerful, growling one, its my preferred variation - but not easy to hit!

I once saw a group of comedians on tv who played with the finger you think of, paco, but on a piano which is, after my opinion, much more comfortable with that technique[:D]. However, you would be the star at a concert if you could do this on guitar.

Hmm... I have a book called The Art of Rasgueado by Ioannis Anastassakis published by Mel Bay with a foreward by Paco Serrano. Is this the one you're thinking of?

It really only has about 25 specific rasgueos with numerous rumba patterns and some stuff on golpes.

I got it on eBay, new for pretty darn cheap. Interesting little book.
