TomaSito. Not to be confused with TomaTito.

Apparently, Tomasito played at the Jerez festival recently.

Has anyone heard his album "Cositas De La Realidad"?:

I'm not sure this guy's music is really Flamenco is it? Sure, there's palmas throughout, and the odd bit of Flamenco guitar. But it uses electric guitars sometimes, and the "cante" occasionally leans more toward rap than Flamenco. Not to mention the fact that he has a tendancy to "breakdance" on stage!!!

But he pulls it off! its a great album and good fun! I don't really like rap or Spanish Rock music, but I'd highly recommend Cositas De La Realidad.

I would be interested to know what his 3 other albums are like? Are they as good as Cositas? I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere either (only "Torrotron" at Flamenco Connection) so if anyone has heard his other albums, or knows a stockist, please let me know!!!

Thanks,

James

Sorry can't help you with the other CD's but glad to find someone else that likes that CD. Agree with your comments and was going to recommend Digitano or Rap Kani - compilations that he is on - then read the bit where you said you'd didn't like rap so probably not a good idea. Let me know if you ever find the others - have you tried El flamenco vive? Am going back to Madrid in October so will have a good look. Karenanne

Hi Karenanne,

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that Liked Cositas De La Realidad. Yes, I've tried ElFlamencoVive.Es, but they only had this album. Although I did manage to find another one of his albums "Torrotron" at the Flamenco Connection website, so I ordered that one. I have to admit that I'm not a big rap fan, but recently I've come across a few foreign CDs that mix rap with other styles of music, and I enjoyed them a lot. So I might still try the compilations you mentioned. Please do let me know if you come across any of his other CDs while you are on your travels.

Thanks!

James

Yes, he performed at the Jerez festival this year- once in his own rockish show at the Bodega Byass, and also doing straight flamenco cante and baile (bulerias and tanguillos) as part of a bigger cast at the Villamarta theatre. He's an incredible showman, infectious energy and compas for days. Very festero, funny, upbeat, unique dancer, good singer, and very innovative in his musical experiments. I especially like the percussive solea on Cositas.

Tomasito has now joined forces with the likes of "Kiko Veneno" and "Los Delinquentes" to form a super-group called "G-5".

The album, "Tucaratupapi" comes with a DVD, and is available from Flamenco World:

Its also available for download from the Apple Itunes store (just under £8) if you have an MP3 player.

First impressions are good, although steer clear if you don't like Spanish pop/rock influenced music- I think I even heard a kazoo in one of the songs!

Thanks for the info - I'm off to Madrid again soon so will definitely pick up a copy when I'm in Flamenco World. Karenanne
ps Saw Ojos de Brujo last week and had a great night. Not a big fan of their CD's but they put on a great two hour shown and I danced in front of the stage all night and felt quite young again. Loved the duet between the flamenco dancer and the rapper!
