As far as I know, Bernal guitars are favoured by a lot of Jerez students, simply because of the price and quality.
I have a medium range Bernal that I bought from Jim.O on this forum and I can't fault the guitar..
You could play anything you wanted on it...
(Provided you had the talent..[:D])

My guitar for the last year has been Anders Eliasson, because it has lots of overtones and is more complex and interesting than the Bernal model I have.

But Bernal?

Great genuine Flamenco guitar at a great price IMO!

cheers

Ron

Hi Cepa,

Bernals, like Ron said, are favoured in Jerez and elsewhere. Nino Jero and Santiago Moreno play them. However I think there is a big range in quality. Like with any maker, not all Bernals are created equal.

Bernal has started to expand setting up a couple of "franchise" shops in Triana and Granada as well as in his hometown of Algodonales. His scale of production is kinda like the Sanchis boys, with a wide variety of models. My teacher has a kick-ass blanca that is somewhere in the middle price-wise. Really bright with that brittle Andalucian sound, and beautifully made. Try a few if you can as I've also seen some that were not as nice. They seem to be fast guitars that favour a strong right hand.

Again, as Ron said, they're decent guitars that are definitely flamenco and competitively priced.

-Jake.

Hi Cepa Andaluza

I've got a Bernal too. It's a negra with cedar top. It's the maestro palosanto model. I like the guitar and i would not sell it because of it's dark warm character. Nevertheless i've heard other flamenco guitars with better tone but they're also much more expencive. Bernal offers good quality guitars for a reasonable prive. Bernals up to 2000 euros are worth their money. If you can spend more, their others which might be better choice than a Bernal.

Armando
