I planned to make make some preparations to do some video uploads in the future. Some questions.

1. I have a camcorder, but is it better to use a webcam ?
2. As far as I know my provider only allows me to upload files up to 2mb, so will it be possible anyway to upload video files.
3. If yes, which kind of files are most convenient and small enough.

I read somewhere that I need firewire and I don't have that[:(]

I never heared about firewire...and was able to do an upload.

Just record with the cam. Put the file in the computer and make it as small as you can with virtualdub or windows movie maker. You can make the picturesize smaller and the number of pixel. 2mb maximum? Than upload with repidshare.de or as you like.

What kind of connection do you use ? Usb ? Or the 4 pins connector ?

My manual says I need ieee1394 ( firewire) in my computer to have enough transferspeed.

Oh thats the problem? I transfered the video from a cd on my computer which a friend burned for me. But I have USB. Doesnt have all pc from this century USB? Than you should record with your webcam... Or ask a friend as I did.. Hope you get it working.

I didn't mean if you HAD usb. I meant do you use usb OR firewire, or maybe sth. else that I don't know of. Via usb I only can transfer photo's to my laptop, not video.
So the recording is no problem. The editing should'nt be either. It's just the transferring.

Well maybe I could ask a friend. Do you happen to know how I get my hands on one of those ?[:D]

You can buy firewire cards and install in your computer. They're cheap now.

Sorry for my ignorance Exitao. But is there a connector on the card or what ? How do I connect the camcorder after the card is installed ?

And what is the price nowadays of an average firewire card ?

Hi koella

I had the same problem. The camcorder needs a 1394 interface (also called Firewire) that my pc didn´t have. To work on the movie tracks you need a video cut software. I looked on eBay for Ulead VideoStudio as an OEM version and separately for the interface. I found a seller who offered the card with 3 firewire connectors including Ulead VideoStudio OEM version for about 12 or 15 Euro. That was 1 year ago.

The firewire on windows XP or 2000 doesn´t need a driver. Just put it into the PCI slot and it will be recognized automatically. You don´t need to be a specialist, it´s very simple done. To install the camcorder to the firewire card you need a firewire cable being connected between camcorder and the card. Sometimes the camcorders do not include such a cable but if they include it they are often are to short I bought 5m cable. There are different plugs at the end. At the camcorder there is a smaller plug, the other end is normal. The cable cost me about 4 Euros.

Yes. Why bother with your provider when you have dozens of other ways. All your site needs is a link.

3. If yes, which kind of files are most convenient and small enough.

Media Player - 30fpsecond or higher if you want quality. 15fps for space. But if you get a Google account you can get masses of space. - Quicktime seems to be having some glitches.

which editing software do you have?

It's allright.
I already uploaded some video's. I use Adobe Premiere and put the files on Youtube.
