Romanza -> Flamenco in Spanish art (Jul. 21 2006 8:46:06)

Recently I came across a book with some paintings in it by Jose Cruz Herrera. They are the most beautiful paintings of Spanish & Arab women, often decked out in flamenco costumes, with a lot of religious imagery etc.

Normally I'm not a fan of portraits or paintings of people, and I'm certainly no art critic, but there is something about these paintings that is so evocative... the colours are amazing too.

Is anyone familiar with this artist? Apparently he was from Linea de la Concepcion, where there is also a museum dedicated to him. His daughter is also a painter. I guess he's probably quite famous in Spain?

Does anyone know of any other artists who painted flamenco / Andalucian themes?

Yes, some pieces are really good looking! I like painted women.

4 years ago, I had to help old and ill people with buying things and cleaning windows and the floor, coz I didnt wanna go to the german army for one year. During this time I had to help an alcoholic painter 2 times a week. He allways drank Korn with tea. I didnt have to clean the rooms for him. He just need me for buying 6 bottles of Korn for each week.[&:] we allways talked much and he changed my personalyty much during this year.
I often brought him flamenco-mixtapes. He was crazy on flamencoguitar and liked most the farruca of Manolo Sanlucar.
At the end he gave me one of his paintings for me to remember this time. His whole apartment was full of these paintings. He only painted women, ......complete naked and with much detail.. huuuuuh... hehe..Damn he was good!! When I came in his apartment for the first time when I was a nice unwrecked kid, I got a shock!!! And a lath. Muhahahaha... He was crazy... But this is another topic.

It just came into my mind. Coz of these pictures on this website.

I´m not 100% shure. But the painting "por alegrias" looks like a stitchery painting which my grandmother had in the livingroom. Looks the same..

Sounds like an interesting guy!
Excuse my ignorance but what is Korn??

hmm.. I think he did many mistakes... He wasnt very healthy... but a funny guy. I think he already died coz of the alcohol.

Korn is an alcoholic not very well tasting drink. It has around 45% alcohol I think. And he drank 9 bottles each week.
