If a site uses a secure https url, then it is basically more secure than any other type of banking (other than in person). Over the phone, cell phone, mail, restaurant bill ... you have no security. Proper online transactions (which most are these days) use 128 - 256 bit encryption when passing around CC numbers ... you don't get that when you hand your card over to a retailer or phone your number to someone. There was so much hype/fear about card security in the early days that internet security has been forced to out do almost all other methods. I mean people are even putting fake card readers on bank machines and unscrupulous vendors are double swiping cards and putting security cameras on the debit card key pads. You can't trust anyone :) Sean
