Please check out this new book.

John

"The Art of the Guitar is a rich, photographic exhibition dealing with the various aspects of the construction of a concert Spanish guitar. The painstaking process of building a concert guitar, as well as the skill, creativity, and dedication of the artisan, is beautifully captured in the black and white photos of photographer Maria Isabel Lopez Gonzavalzez in the Granada workshop of John Ray." Thats cool!
Are there explenations inside, too, or is it mainly artphotography?

johnguitar -> RE: new book (Jun. 19 2006 15:05:24)

No, the captions accompanying each photo are not intended for the luthery student but rather for the lay person.

After a long absence, this book is available once again on Amazon

Good for you John, I'll have a look at it.

Let me know if you need any chopsticks, I have thousands of them. [:D]

johnguitar -> RE: new book (Jun. 25 2013 15:37:08)

Thank you Stephen, next time you find yourself in my part of the world (or I in yours) I will trade a book for a fancy set of chopsticks. Postage makes it a bad idea now. I made a set in ebony for my sister-in-law one Christmas but have never managed to make one for myself.

estebanana -> RE: new book (Jun. 26 2013 1:20:53)

I can send you a nice set of hashi John. Dinner for four? [:D]

Joan Maher -> RE: new book (Dec. 10 2023 9:35:44)

Was there ever a reprint of The Granada School of guitar makers?

johnguitar -> RE: new book (Dec. 11 2023 16:30:32)

Hello Joan, The provincial government was unwilling to fund a reprint even though the sales were good for the first edition. However I have begun a new version which will be very similar but include the new makers in Granada. I cannot give you a date for the new publication.

John Ray

John, los polĂticos son todos hijos de puta who only want to fill their pockets. How much money do you need? Los aficionados son aficionados[;)]

RobF -> RE: new book (Dec. 11 2023 19:15:13)

Hi John,

Morante makes a good point. Would a go-fund-me drive help? Or perhaps the Foro could get involved in some manner as a patron? Not necessarily for a reprint, but to help compensate you for your efforts in creating the new edition. I suspect nobody gets rich off of a project such as this and some level of aid may be helpful.

Best,

johnguitar -> RE: new book (Dec. 12 2023 6:49:01)

Thanks for the thoughts, the delay right now has nothing to do with money. I think I can finally manage the financing myself but a lot of copies will need to sell before I get my investment back. I will be counting on you all.[:D]

Joan Maher -> RE: new book (Dec. 12 2023 14:04:19)

Thanks, John do let us know when it's published.

Can't find it there.

johnguitar -> RE: new book (Dec. 27 2023 9:56:19)

Sorry Ethan, this thread got on to the Granada book from the photography book. The photography book is available at Strings by Mail. They regularly buy copies so it should be on hand. https://www.stringsbymail.com/el-arte-de-la-guitarra-the-art-of-guitar-14484.html Amazon are a bunch of a**holes.
