Romanza -> Flamenco top ten! (Jun. 9 2006 11:04:14)

Knowing how much we all love these 'favourites' lists [:D].. check this out on esflamenco.com - their top ten flamenco records of all time (think it's just a ploy to get people to buy from the site myself!)

For the guitar they pick PDL (Fuente y Caudal), Sabicas (Flamenco puro) and Manolo Sanlucar (Tauromaquia). Haven't heard any of these so can't comment. Like the sound of 'Lagrimas Negras' - anyone heard it?

Its not a bad list, I suppose. But I would pick PDL's "Fantasia Flamenca" instead of "Fuente Y Caudal". Sanlucar's "Tauromagia" is a classic, but his "Recital De Flamenco" CD and "Mundo Y Formas" series are equally good IMO. The Sabicas "Flamenco Puro" CD is amazing, but I think you get most of these songs and more on his "La Guitarra Flamenca" compilation CD. Camaron is the king of Flamenco cante, and I'm told his 1987 "Paris" album is a fair representation of what Flamenco is all about.
