In the finishing process I am interested if anyone has found an electric sander which gives a decent finish prior to the sanding by hand stage. Any particular grades/ makes of abrasive paper which have proved effective.

I am looking to finish in French polish.

My most useful tool.........Nicholson Second cut Rasp #49. about £22.00 it was a bargain!

I strongly recommend using machine sanders as little as possible. There´s nothing like 120 grit and a lot of patience[;)]

Favorite too:
A semisized (40mm) chineese plane in macassar ebony. Fantastic[:)]
