JBASHORUN -> UK television "Flamenco" beer commercial... (May 8 2006 18:44:48)

Hey, has anyone in the UK seen that beer commercial on television? I think its for San Miguel or some other beer. But it features a Flamenco-esque dancer practising her moves on stage, then cooling off her feet with the beer afterwards.

I was just wondering if it was real Flamenco, or just some marketing team's idea of it (if it really is supposed to be Flamenco)? If it is, is it in compas? [8|]

Using Flamenco to market products is an interesting one... haven't come across it before apart from in those "buy a house in Spain" adverts! [:D]

I caught it once in passing and I think the guy says "para'a!" which might be "parada!" i.e "stop!", dropping the "d" as in Andaluz but I cannot be sure and don't know whether they do drop the "d" in that particular context.

As for the music, the cante sounded genuine but I did not identify the palo.

Yes James I have seen it! The one where it is a sort of flamenco 'dance off' - the old guy gets rid of all the older dancers off the stage, and tries to give the trophy to the fiery young senorita (the only one who is not trussed up in traditional flamenco garb) - but she refuses to stop dancing!

No I couldn't identify the palos, but nice to see flamenco on screen. Wonder if this is the beginning of a new wave of popularisation??!

Yes, its the new San Miguel advert.

Although the harmony in the clips was a little ambiguous, check out the palmas. The compas makes it a bulerias for me (fast pattern in sixes).

there's a property in spain advert on irish tv lately and its playing a bulerias which then changes to a tangos rythm later on- crazy.
