Hi guys, I was wondering how you approach practice in learning a new tune.
In the whole process it takes me like a month to get a new piece, I usually take a short phrase or 4 measures and play it until I'm confident, when I'm done with the whole song I choose the hard parts and work on it, here's the point of my question, do you practice hard parts as they are or you practice something else that could help you play it?
I often find myself working over and over again on a part and I continue to be stuck on it, and then practice something completly different and it actually helps me to play the other stuff.

If you repeat the hard part over and over but still canĀ“t play it it meens that you got some technique problem.
I say this just as an example. In a picado there might be a string crossing that screws it up.
so in stead of playing the run over and over i would play diffrent exersices on string crossing.
Then go back to the picado later

Yeah you're right, but I would call it a technique problem, I think it has to do with a movement feel problem and when you get to the point where you can feel the movement without an effort and efficiently then the problem is solved, I just find amazing that sometimes you work on something that has no relation but it helps overall.

i think its just buliding muscle memory, ie if you make a mistake because your going too fast it means you brain has'nt internalised the passage well enough to do it at high speed ANYTIME im learnig a new falseta, even if its apparently simply on the page, i do it extremely slowly then ill pick up the tempo at a later tiem.

Like Henry, I just build tempo. I had one piece where at first I couldnt play faster than 65! I can do the same buleria at 220 now. It was just awkward fingering, and it just took a while to adjust.
