Current news about Cloudflare changing a default for new domains regarding bot traffic brought my attention to the fact that there is mounting pressure on crawler operators to distinguish traditional search-engine indexing from AI training and agent uses. As this happens, sites with obscure and specialist knowledge may increasingly be able to sell automated access to their archives rather than simply having that material used for free.

I certainly lack context for understanding this situation, but it seems like it might have positive implications for the survivability of this forum.

Seems to me that the Foro is falling into disrepair and I wonder if much will be done to give it what it needs. But hopefully this may lead to some positive upswing, perhaps.

I'm not sure that's right. I certainly think Simon lacks social skills and does not often engage (eg I am waiting for a reply to something, though I've forgotten what it is....(oh, yes, the limit on uploaded images). Simon is probably ahead of me there, and not interacting is simply his triaging the number of emails he gets [:D]).

He does pop up every now and then to address an issue that is causing problems and I think he's trying to rewrite the site using available technology. Why interact with people who just say it's not like it used to be? Nothing is.

He doesn't seem to want funding beyond the tip box (as that will presumably attach him to a schedule which might not be possible to keep) so unless we do it ourselves we need to wait.

Intimating the decline of the site is the responsibility of its messenger is missing the point. Interaction and engagement has reduced because flamenco is not the same, and is no longer the song of the Outcasts. We are not passionate. We're 'interested'. Yay, us.

Forgive me, but I think this is not quite correct. There is for example a very healthy Flamenco scene in London, but comms are by FaeceBook, Insta and What'sApp etc. rather than a specialist forum like this. But this Foro is a special place, it's like a huge community wiki, it is not easily replaceable, and it deserves some care. Yes there are not that many regular contributors now, but there are many lurkers and people who post occasionally, and a lot has already been said so there is less to discuss. I dispute that we are not passionate. We (mostly) just happen not to have lives and history that are difficult in the way of the Gitanos, but we all have pain and joy that can be used to create beauty.
