Miguel Salado has passed away aged 44. I met him a few times in 1999 when I was in Jerez doing Fernando Moreno's group class. He was always very welcoming to me and the other foreigners there. He was already a much better player than all of us but was always very humble. At the time he had no interest in flashy playing and just wanted to dedicate himself to cante accompaniment and promote traditional Jerez playing. D.E.P.

Yes he was just a kid playing in the juergas in Gerardo's curso, that was the first year I went to Sanlúcar. The guitar got passed between him, Tino Vandersmann and this Brazilian guy Fernando de La Rue, who seemed at the time the most experienced players for the cante. I would look up old photos but unfortunately I don't think we can up load them anymore here.

i studied with Miguel. He was a great teacher....i thought he had the illness beat and was on the road to full recovery.

he was an example of gentlemanliness, goodness and love for the flamenco guitar.

I can see his peers from that group of guitarists and singers/dancers who came up during that era in the 1990s to early 2000's, are really upset and shocked by his passing.

the older singers loved him for his way of accompanying their voice, manuel moneo and luis el zambo come to mind.

life is really injust and cruel taking someone so young and with such a talent.

“A mí me gustaba no saber lo que iba a tocar en el escenario, sobre todo con aquellos cantaores de la generación antigua, los que no ensayaban y nunca sabías por dónde iban a salir. Ellos me daban la fuerza y la energía que necesitaba para tocar. Cuando un cantaor me obligaba a hacer siempre lo mismo, a cortar en el nueve o a tocar una falseta determinada, yo salía al escenario de mentira.”

A quote from Miguel Salado.
