In the method I learned from Michael Darnton, bass bar work involves clamping the top to a stiff frame to keep it stable through all the steps.

It got me thinking: What if guitars had sound posts and they didn't cause the top and back plates to break?

On the one hand, they work so differently that analogizing between the two is thankless work.

On the other hand, I read that the quietly amazing repair guy Yuris Zeltins has a repair technique for collapsing tops involving a brace, supported IIRC on the sides, which has minimal contact with the top.
