Stephen and I have been good friends ever since we met in a San Francisco pub in 2012, when I gave him a bottle of peppercorns I had obtained in Micronesia, where I had just spent three months on a temporary US State Department gig at our Embassy. We have maintained contact since then.
Today, via E-mail, we discussed the fact that his absence on the Foro has been noticed, commented on, and speculated as to why, by some Foro members. He authorized me to post the following, which I have repeated from his E-mail messages. His absence is a function of both inability to log in and his desire for a bit of a break.

Thank you for the offer to clarify my situation.
I really had not anticipated anyone noticing I was not in attendance, I’m happy to know my posts are of interest. I had no intention of leaving, quite the opposite, I was enjoying the banter and the opportunity to wax on about my work as I enter my mid curmudgeonhood.
Please let it be known I actually do upon reflection care about the participants I have banter with, and that I miss my enemies perhaps on occasion more than my friends.
Also my website email is sometimes confusing from my side and it’s difficult to filter spam from
real emails. I read that E. Hernandez the Alaskan bush pilot tried to contact and I must have missed the email.
