Few of us saw these guys last night in London. I met ddias and xirdneH_imiJ!

We watched the show and had short debrief afterward! I think Richard ran into Antonio and got a photo as he was leaving!

We should've got a group photo of foro dudes as is customary! [:D]


So in NY this was a Sabicas tribute?

I may be wrong but i think Antonio and Alvaro did a Sabicas Farruca together with some modern twist sandwiched between the original?

But that was it I think.

Was mainly Gerardos back catalogue Rondena/Buleria schtick, Sevilla, Templo del Lucero etc

I found the 3 guitars a bit of a cacophony to be honest. And Antonio's guitar was so loud compared to the others.. Couldnt hear Gerardos melody line on his classics so I found that a rather annoying. (I thouhgt it was due to my dodgy ear, but guys afterwards agreed with me)
Technically all outrageous and amazing but it was lacking something for me. silence and nuance.

I also think I find a little frustration when hearing all the classic that I listened to religiously for so long played with a fresh twist or a second guitar. Its basically not the album version that the crowd (me) wants to hear. But I get it... its not that for a reason.


(oh and also couldnt hear Olga Pericets footwork at all!..yes soundman was asleep)

Flamenco elite are curious…. Not mentioned earlier but Antonio was noticeably shaking out his right hand between every falseta. We assume cold or numb fingers but just in NYC?

So did you notice anything like that?

Hmm interesting. No defo didn't notice that. He was constantly fiddle with mic position thought. But no shivering. But its severe heat wave in London at the moment. He was in good spirits shouting oles and laying on the showmanship. I don't wlanna say he was high .. but he had a certain energy!

you're the doc, but the movement he is making looks to me more like as if he has some sort of inflammation, tendonitis or something similar.

Yeah, I think he has cubital tunnel syndrome. It seems like an elbow issue, like his ulnar nerve is trapped at his medial epicondyle. I have the same problem, so when you bend your elbow to get into the playing position, the pinky starts to get numb (and the ring finger a little bit), so you extend and shake it out to relieve some of the symptoms, but then when you play again and the elbow is bent again, the nerve gets stretched again, and the symptoms come back, and so on...

(Take it with a grain of salt, coming from a psychiatrist, not an orthopedic surgeon LOL)

Actually a few seconds later I ran into Gerardo and Álvaro and got pictures with them too! :)
And a few seconds later I ran into Sorin (another Foro member).

Indeed they played the Sabicas farruca to start and finish with and in between they played their own thing. Antonio was way louder than the others (played in front of microphone on a stand while the other two were using the clip on DPA) and he kept adjusting. He seemed really antsy the whole night. Being 2nd or 3rd guitarist is really not for him, he needs to be the centre of attention!
I was very pleasantly surprised with Álvaro, I knew he was a good player, but to play with such dynamics and precision flawlessly in front of a crowd is special.

0:25, 3:50, and 4:05 - he is still affected, having to shake out the arm. Unfortunate...

And it is really strange to me that he STILL does not get the timing of the picado intro. The cajon did it one time to help, but it still did not help. From my perspective it is NOT that hard compared to most of what else Antonio can execute.
