Fosforito was one of the greats and one of my favorites. He passed away at the age of 93, so he had a very long life. DEP Fosforito. I will salute him with a copita of jerez this evening while listening to one of his CDs.
I especially enjoyed those where Fosforito was accompanied by Juan Habichuela.
Were those from the Rito Y Geografia film?
I wonder if there will be anyone ever again who is worthy of Llave de Oro del Cante? Considering the very great singers in the past who didn't get it, I'm doubtful anyone in future will?
did they give it posthumously to Cameron or anyone? I can't remember, but pretty much everyone that competed against Mairena deserved it.
Yes, Camaron posthumously- no competition. Fosforito was still alive but he was awarded it without there being a competition. Although he had competed when Mairena won in 1962.
I imagine politics were involved in the Mairena decision. Some greats still alive weren't even competing. But still an impressive line up in 1962; Fosforito, El Chocolate, Juan Varea, Pericón de Cádiz, Platero de Alcalá, and Antonio Mairena. I'm guessing Platero could have got your vote.
Juan Varea doesn't get much mention. I had studied his Alcala and enjoyed it. Here with Juan Habichuela.
