So, I found couple of old persian art pieces (khatam kari) in my basement cleaning tour, and was researching them and saw something interesting in this video. I know that luthiers use Animal hide. But the stuff they use here, seems to be a bit different and apparently only made in the city of Yazd and are in rock shapes, Ever see anything like this or even used it?

The short part about the glue is around 04:15 in the video.

By the way, this reminded me so much on Rosettes.

A guy shows how to make similar here. I thought the same as you regarding rosettes etc.

Thanks, watched it. What a great gift for the birthday of his daughter. He did a great job. Time consuming as hell for sure.

Here is another great video explaining some details.

I think two of the pieces I found in the basement are actually 100% old school hand made including the rods. etc. There is also a stamp of a specific master behind the piece. The others seem to be "standard", very nice too but not as special. I will take pictures soon.

The glue he’s using is pretty much the same glue violin and guitar makers use, except that the makers filter the glue to make it clearer. The violin hide glue is made the lighter color protein from next to the skin, so it’s not brown. Overall it’s just regular hide glue.

Thank you for the Info.

That you've been cleaning out the basement and finding all this interesting and beautiful stuff makes me wonder if condolences are in order. If so, please accept mine.

It's cool that you're taking the opportunity of finding these pieces to reconnect with your roots and delve deeper into how they were made. So much to appreciate.

Could you be persuaded to post some pictures of your finds? Would love to see them.
