Just posting this lightheartedly.
I do understand that most here are only interested in guitar, and don't have intention or motivation to accompany flamenco or be a tocaor. And that is completely fine.

Damn. She got some powerful rasgueados.

At least the dude at start didn't say "flamingo", but "flaminco". He got the C right

Devil posted that one in the Macho thread, but no comments about her. She was great.

Sarita Heredia is gitano but born in Detroit. Music from Motor City is usually heavy.

Apparently when she went to Spain in the 1950s they did not accept a woman playing guitar.

Hate to hijack the thread, speaking about La Barrosa and god level, in my amateur view I always thought that La Cañada is equally or even more challenging so wondering how you guys feel about it since it's almost never mentioned. Every time I listen to it it drives me crazy.

It is a weird tuning situation, so not a practical piece to work on. Piñonate and Tesorillo use a similar tuning. There was a video of him playing it, with the tuning in place I don't consider it especially hard. It has the sound of Granaina with the open trebles relative to the fretted chord. I have my tangos in drop B Granaina so a similar "aire", and I have adapted a version without that drop B for practical reasons in use with dancers.

Anyway I would study it in the context of the other two pieces as well to get a better view of the formal structure he is using. Here is a video still up on YouTube:

I think they did the hijacking! this is back to the matter at hand![:D]

Thanks for your explanations Ricardo, I really appreciate it. I understand what you're saying and I trust your opinion. I perceive La Cañada as incredibly hard and I go crazy when I listen to it (just did now), but it's just a feeling. For example, I tried learning some La Barrosa falsetas ages ago, but I never dared to try that tangos. Anyway, just a feeling as I said, means little.
If I may ask about one more piece, and I promise I'll keep quiet after, how about Antonia? What did you think of it and what do you think how hard it is? My feeling is that it's another incredibly hard composition, I kinda perceive it as some Russian literary classic - full of details and super difficult to understand, but a real masterpiece.

That one seem like a constant stream of syncopated melodies, I imagine very hard to memorize with only the basic letras to accompany in tonos of Taranta as a rest easy moment. At least there is a repeat theme, I was reminded of Dave Mathews intro there.

I actually did mean smth like that! Anyway it would be of tremendous help of course if I was able to either dance or sing - both of these already implies good command of compas and all.
In NY area we have Jose Moreno who actually is smth like that - jack of all trades. He started with guitar much later than he was doing dancing and singing, so I remember he essentially did not have any struggle with accompaniment once he picked the guitar.

Ricardo -> RE: What level player!?!? (Nov. 26 2025 15:29:27)

In terms of Jose's professional work, he was dancing and playing cajon when I met him. He had just started learning guitar in 2005 or so. Today he is a big guitar aficionado with a nice collection and I have tried his latest Jason McGuire models. His dad was a singer I had known long before, however, singing was his last endeavor. I first worked with him as a cantaor in 2016, though I am sure he sang before that. He had issue with the vocal break, something I learned about during the pandemic with my own voice when I started trying to sing seriously. Since then he over came that in a big way and I asked him and he admitted he trained with an opera teacher which is pretty cool. But for sure singing was his third skill. Everybody should get into it IMO, it helps the guitar playing in unique ways and you can practice in the shower.
