Romerito -> Cantes - pa estudiar/comparar (Jul. 28 2025 20:17:50)

As a guitarist, I have always enjoyed discovering cantaores' interpretations of cantes I recognize. Sometimes with the same letra, other times with different letras. I have always liked this cante by La Susi. 1:37

Last week I heard Jose Valencia sing it with a different letra. 1:48

La Susi sings the first line similarly both times, but Valencia draws the first line out doblando the tail end of it the first time, and sings it more straight on the repeat.

The caida is interesting because the melody ascends to the third (G if we're por arriba) in the first line and resolves by descending to the tonic (supported by the VI harmony, C).

While there are several styles that climb up to that 7th and descend to tonic, I think only this style keeps the cambio lower register like these examples:

EDIT: never mind I realize yours only go up to 5 and touch 6 going down. Let me check some others.

Ok, it is closest to Serneta 5 except they typically don’t sustain the 5th like these examples…they target it and then drop from 6th pretty quick. The cambio is the same type though staying in the low register.
