have bodhrans been used in flamenco for a long time, i just saw this on gerardo nunez's site and it made me curious.

http://www.cursoflamenco.com/english/fotografias.htm

its the black and white photo on the left centre of the page.

this is a bodhran, a trad irish drum/percussive intrument.

usually its played with a bone or wood beater, very rarely done with the hand.
i learnt to play it when i was younger(well kinda forced when i was a kid in the irish school we were forced to learn an instrument, i chose the bodhran but i did a bit of tin whistle aswell[:D].)

but sadly i got rid of it after i left primary school.ah well.

I´ve never heard or seen bodhrans in action in flamenco, but the idea is very good. Bodhran is one of my favorite percussion instruments (I like ti whistless as well, but prefer uilean pipes[:D])
In the hands of a good player, bodhrans are very expressive and have lots of guts.

This guy on the photo might be playing a bodhran, but that´s not the way to do it.[:-]

So pick it up, master the bulerias compás and I´m sure a lot of people will be interested. (I will)
