Hi All,

A luthier friend is assisting me with a classical build and a future flamenco build. I currently have a blanca and was curious which of these two woods would be best for a negra? And if anyone is curious, I purchased the wood from Exotic Wood Zone.

Glad to be a part of this forum! Love going through the diverse discussions from some players and luthiers I really appreciate. Thanks for what you contribute!

Hi there,
Under the name of Acacia you have a wide range of woods.
The main matters are Sound damping and weight, which are quite different: it really depends of what you actual have.
Black Waknut is a little more predictable and I would associate it with maple.

I haven't received the wood yet but I can post the details:

Black Walnut (Eastern US) as the botanical name is Juglans nigra. It has been kiln dried and the moisture content is 6%-7%.

Acacia, wattle which appears to be from Australia. Botanical name is Acacia melanoxylon. It has been air dried and has a higher moisture content of 9%.

Not sure if this helps at all...

This is what is called Tasmanian Blackwood.
It's kind similar to Koa wood. I've never built guitars with Koa, so I cannot say too much about it.

Thanks Echi! I just saw the video and found it interesting that it's similar to Koa. Maybe the acacia will be my choice for the negra and the walnut for the classical.
