I have bought 5 sets of Felipe Conde Strings and they are excellent. However i have the 4th strings broken early on 2 occasions and Strings by Mail dont seem to carry individual strings. Anyone else had this problem with strings or know who carries individual strings? I seems unreasonable to have to buy a full set when just one string breaks.

Do you mean broken because windings are worn at a fret?
If so this happens to a greater or lesser degree to all makes of string. Noticing the start of wear and then retying while shifting the string along slightly so that a fresh part of the winding is over the frets helps.
In my experience D'addario basses are the most robust, next after that Knobloch actives.

Check that the bridge bone is smooth. Wound strings can be abrasive and damage the bone.

This only occurred for me with EVERY SINGLE BRAND I have ever tried. The worst was Tomatito Savarez, which broke even a day or so new, and not just to me (perhaps bad batch). But no brand I have ever used avoided the guilt of allowing a D string to pop at some point. Most often this occurs on guitars left alone (not played), in violent jealous opposition to the other guitar you use more often. Humidity changes are likely the culprit.

I agree ...it happens with all string brands. I know that Felipe Conde Strings are made in USA not Spain. Does anybody know where I can buy individual strings or is it best to stop using Felipe Conde altogether?

I’ve been using Flipe Conde strings on one guitar for 4 years now and haven’t had any issues. I don’t know where to buy individual strings. I get mine from strings by mail. They used to sell just a bass string pack but last I looked they didn’t have any for sale. Besides it was almost the same cost as a full set anyway.

I dont think any suppliers have them but I sent a email to Felipe in Madrid. I have 3 guitars that I have bought from him over he last 15 years so he remembers me.
Anyway to cut a long story short I got an immediate reply from his CEO none other than Evgeniya Kirilyuk the Russian classical guitarist and she will make me up pack of what ever I want.....very helpful. I am waiting for a quote.
