only recently I realized the letras of toná/martinete/carceleras etc., are octosyllabic like Soleá/Romances etc. Because I have always done them in baile as the intro for siguiriyas, using that compás as a back drop.
Mairena explains he is ashamed he added that compás to his own recordings and wished in hindsight he could remove it (compás of siguiriyas) because these cantes are totally free style.
The nana in Eduardo Ocón has a melody close to siguiriyas and the letra as well fits the seguidilla form (5+7 more or less, but different than the Toná family).
