Phil -> Siguiriyas Falsetas (Apr. 20 2006 20:13:09)

I've posted 3 variations of the same siguiriya falseta in the audio section, 'Siguiriyas Falsetas Comparison'. They are labelled: Siguiriyas Falsetas Comparison 1, 2,and 3 The first 2 are played by Juan Habichuela (the old one and one of my favorites). I don't know who is playing the third one, but his first name is Antonio. If anyone knows the guitarist that accompanied El Indio Gitano on the 1971 recording of the siguiriya "Vamos a Hincarnos a Rodillas", I'd like to know who he is. Anyway, I think it's kind of interesting to hear and compare different intepretations of same falestas. If anyone has the original NiƱo Ricardo version, I'd really be interested in hearing it.

Hi Phil,
Great post!
I suppose if I had to choose, I like No.1 best.
But they all have that great old Flamenco sound...
Like a sense of urgency, that sadly I hear lacking in a lot of playing.
These days...a lot of too much contrived "cerebral" stuff IMO.

cheers

Ron

Ron,

This is one of my favorite Siguiriya falsetas. It's also quite common and most guitarists play some version of it. It's not too difficult to play. The hard part is playing it the WAY somebody like Juan Carmona does.

Moraito plays a note for note variation of a Parrilla de Jerez Siguiriya falseta on the Zambo CD. If I get time I'll post those for comparison/constrast. It's also a very nice falseta that's within the reach of a fumble-fingers like me.

Can I slightly hijack this thread?

I read that Seguiriyas were a call and answer format. But it's not as easy to pick out as, say, blues. Anyone able to help 'see' it?

Am I a thread killer?
