Hi all,

Programme for 2025 is up.
Stand outs for me

Farruquito
Argentina
Mercedes ruiz w/ Santiago lara obvs.

I'll be going to at least one of those.

A way off yet, but always nice to catch up with folk in the bar so let me know if you fancy

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Feb. 5 2025 11:27:23)

Ahh that's great. Sadly nothing that makes me immediately think I have to go. Too bad there are no solo guitar performances scheduled.

Stu -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Feb. 5 2025 12:43:07)

Yeah they usually have one don't they?

Maybe they will add one

For London guitar fans flamenco festival has put on a guitar programme at Kings Place.
Though you will have to tolerate some cante and baile.

Alejandro Hurtado with Inmaculada Salomón
Manuel Valencia with David Carpio and El Choro
Álvaro Martinete with Claudia La Debla

Cool.
Thanks orson.

silddx -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Mar. 29 2025 13:16:36)

Thanks for this, Orson.

I have tickets for Manuel Valencia Trio on Friday 30 May. If anyone else is going let me know if you fancy meeting for a drinkie beforehand.

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Mar. 29 2025 14:35:18)

Finally a chance to see Alejandro Hurtado live! Thanks Orson!

silddx -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Mar. 29 2025 17:48:28)

Quite. I much prefer to have the cante and baile with the guitar live, I’m much less interested in solo guitar recital.

Air quality? or a bit straight-laced?

Stu -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Mar. 31 2025 15:30:49)

Haha. I meant straight laced....but it's kings cross so I'm guessing the air quality ain't great either.

Crowd is often non flamenco, classical, music snobs..... well it used to feel that way. I haven't been for a while

:)

I've never been, although I used to play in a rock and metal venue opposite called the Redeye, it's probably not there now. That was very, very far from straight-laced, but the air was extremely stuffy, and stank of fags, stale beer and sweaty leather.

Anyway, fancy a pint before the show?

Cool, let's firm up where nearer the time.

QueTal1234 -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Apr. 22 2025 16:09:13)

Since I missed the II Festival de la Guitarra in Madrid this month, a celebration of Sabicas, I was looking forward to London's festival. I was planning on going until I realized that 2 of the 3 guitar events at King's Place were separated by more than a week! There was only one stand out in the Sadler's Wells lineup (too focused on experimental and ballet IMHO).

Stu -> RE: London flamenco festival 2025 (Apr. 22 2025 21:01:06)

The kings place stuff isn't really part of the flamenco festival i don't think.

It's all part of the London flamenco festival, organised by flamenco festival.org

I've only been there for flamenco (Carlos Piñana, Manuel Valencia...) but it seems ok. Audience seemed mostly flamenco fans there for the music...

It's a cavernous modern converted old warehouse, sort of place that gives me agorophobia inside... and i don't get agorophobia outside!

I agree, the cavernous atrium is soulless, empty and unwelcoming. When I left the small auditorium after the performance I felt like I'd been ejected into deep space.

In contrast to having been taken into the fire by David Carpio's Martinetes, and into the earth by the grace of El Choro's Seguiriyas, Ole! And Manuel Valencia was very good too!

(Paula Comitre, Florencia Oz and Carmen Angulo were outstanding last night, but that's baile so I won't trouble the foro any further with that.)

Agreed, the trio were really good. I loved the Seguiriyas and the Martinete, the Bulerias were good. David Carpio reminded me of Chocolate.
