Andy Culpepper -> 3rd guitar with new bracing (Jan. 17 2025 16:13:41)

Hey all, I previously made two Cedar top blancas with this new design that turned out great. I had to give it a go with Spruce. All these guitars have had amazing trebles. The top is about 1.9 mm and I think it could have gone a tad thinner. The Cedar ones had an incredible amount of "breath" and volume, this one too but I think Cedar is just generally louder.

I think this will become my go-to style, what do you think? The rosette was kind of a wacky idea but I think it turned out fine.

Anyway, enjoy!

Sounds like it can go in lots of directions. I like the rosette, it's got variety but also hierarchy.

Sounds really nice!
I would really like a guitar from you Andy but unfortunately the customs to buy a guitar from USA costs about 1200 euros.
I'm currently looking for a new guitar. I see that Spain is my only option.

Hi Andy, the Blanca looks fantastic! The rosette is really unique and adds a lot of character. I’ve always loved how cedar blancas breathe and move air when they’re new-the vibe is right from the start. I’ve experienced it with spruce too, but not as much with cedar. It’s great to see this design coming together so well for you. The sound will likely open up and mature beautifully over time. Personally, I’m a fan of a clean, clear sound with no chasqueo (string buzz), but that’s just my preference. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thanks! I was referring to it as my "ugly" rosette but it seems like a lot of folks like it. I actually put it together when severely sleep-deprived [:D]

Thank you! I sent you an email, maybe we can work something out.

Thanks! Totally agree that Cedar often sounds great right away and Spruce takes more time to open up. I set the action a little lower on this one than I normally do because it felt like it could handle it, but there is a little bit of buzz yes. Appreciate the feedback.

Looks vary nice.

Away from home do I could only listen on my old iDevice. Had to relisten to notice the string sizzle, guess I thought it sounded mue flamenco!

Rosette looks a bit Christmas-themed [8D]

Eso!

not hardly enough green in there. The red center strip really pops out. Goes good with a flamingo dancer in a red dress. I would suggest more guitars with similar or same rosette but experiment with different colors on that center strip. Green, Blue, yellow or gold, etc. Imagine Morao playing one of these with purple. Gitanos would by it just for that reason alone!

i think the whole thing looks beautiful man! inspiring! so clean and crisp. thanks for sharing the pics and the video. great sound and lovely paying.

I can't tell to what extent you are trolling Ricardo but I will take your suggestion to heart [:D]

Andy, the guitar sounds great and the rosette is particularly nice. If it's wacky, then they're supposed to be.

Stu -> RE: 3rd guitar with new bracing (Jan. 28 2025 12:53:26)

andy, do you french polish your guitars yourself?

Andy Culpepper -> RE: 3rd guitar with new bracing (Feb. 3 2025 2:29:03)

Thanks Ethan!

Stu, yes I do. If I could find someone else to do it I would hire them in a heartbeat [:D]

Stu -> RE: 3rd guitar with new bracing (Feb. 3 2025 14:42:54)

haha! yeah i gotta polish my build and really dont fancy it! have rung around and no one else does either![:D]

Echi -> RE: 3rd guitar with new bracing (Feb. 3 2025 20:29:48)

Congratulations Andy, very noce guitar.

I still don't get how some among the best Conde I have played used to have a 2.8 mm thick top.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: 3rd guitar with new bracing (Feb. 4 2025 3:45:09)

I'm not sure either Echi but some of the best Hausers are the same way! Wood is highly variable though, the Spruce I used on this one is very stiff and medium density. Also you need to account for the lacquer which is sometimes sprayed pretty thick.

In other news I think I need to change my recording setup; I made a private video for someone today just with my phone very close to the guitar and they told me it sounded better that way, haha.

Btw, the guitar is available if anyone is interested.
