in 51 minute of video below mr Marlow is talking about syncopated rhythm. How this should be properly understood ?

metalhead -> RE: mr Marlow-syncopated rhythm (Dec. 31 2024 15:21:49)

starts on beat 4

4 e & a 1
*e*
& a 2 e &
*a*
3 e & a 4
*e*
& a 1 e &
*a*
2 & 3 &

the * denotes notes not played or silence

You working in Frevo?? Awesome!

We should have a little Frevo challenge!

Actually it starts on count 1 or the first beat. When I say "down beat" that is wrong it is count 3 (3 & 4 &), which is technically not a "downbeat". I should have said "strong beat". If you strum rumba those last 8th notes land on the slap or the 5th stroke of an 8 stroke rumba.

beautiful piece I wish I could learn it but it is so picado heavy :(

JasonM -> RE: mr Marlow-syncopated rhythm (Jan. 1 2025 16:53:04)

I had to work this section out really slow with the foot tap to get the timing solid. But then surprisingly my brain picked up the rhythm ! It’s a fun section - like a rhythm game.

Picado heavy in the improv section but you can learn the main melody. The little speed Burst sections can be paired down to something easier. The challenging part is the picado at 50min in the above video. But as Mr Marlow said in the other thread, it’s a great exercise to learn. And it’s all on one string. It’s challenging to play it fast.

Hello, Mr. Mansell. Don't you think Mr. Marlow comes out looking like Ramon Montoya?

[:D] I think Devilhand started it, as a show of respect and admiration for her teacher
